QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor of Education or equivalent;
- Teaching experience or pre-service teacher placement(s) at the Primary or Junior level, in classrooms with a wide range of abilities and learning styles;
- Experience and/or training in the use of current, research-based practices for assessment strategies and literacy and numeracy programming;
- Experience differentiating and adapting teaching, learning and assessment in classrooms with a wide range of developmental levels;
- Experience working in a shared learning environment with other educators and professionals to develop student supports;
- Experience and/or knowledge in Special Education, self-regulation, restorative practices, and trauma-informed care;
- Additional training in Early Learning Programming, Reading Recovery or a specialization in primary/kindergarten would be an asset
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:
Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:
- A knowledge of and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of the First Nations people of Yukon and a culturally diverse student population;
- Experience integrating a range of research based practices in the development of early literacy and reading intervention;
- Strong ability to engage students in learning, with a variety of differentiated strategies in order for student success with the core compentencies;
- Solid planning and organizational skills to create a framework for learning and development, and the ability to support teachers in developing tailored individualized plans for students;
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work positively and collaboratively with students, staff and the school community;
- Ability to work and contribute as a member of a professional team and willingness to participate in the total school program;
- Experience with positive classroom management best practices;
- Willingness to live, work and participate as an active member of a small, northern community
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Criminal Record/RCMP Check with Vulnerable Sector; to be provided before the first day of employment, dated no more than 3 months prior to your start date
