Over four weeks in June and July 2022, the Department of Education will be offering summer school courses for secondary students who have not successfully completed a course and who wish to strengthen their skills in one of the core academic subjects.
School: Summer School
Location: Whitehorse
Position: Teacher - ½ days
Assignment: English, Mathematics or Science
Start Date: June 23, 2025
End Date: July 18, 2025
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience:
- Recent experience teaching English or Mathematics or Science at the secondary level;
- Bachelor of Education or equivalent;
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:
The ideal candidate will possess these qualifications, skills, and knowledge, but also demonstrate suitability for the role and organizational culture:
- Ability to plan, organize and manage secondary students in a classroom setting;
- Ability to adapt curriculum to meet a range of learning styles and abilities;
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills;
- Knowledge of and sensitivity towards the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations and a culturally diverse student population.
- Previous Yukon Summer School Experience would be an asset;
- Recent Yukon teaching experience in subject area;
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Criminal Record/RCMP Check with Vulnerable Sector; to be provided before the first day of employment, dated no more than 3 months prior to your start date
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
- Preference will be given to teachers currently employed by the Department of Education;
- To be a Teacher in Yukon, you must hold a Teacher Certification in another Canadian province/territory first;
- Successful applicants will be required to undergo a Criminal Record Check including a Vulnerable Sector Check.
