Invites applications for the position of:
MENTAL HEALTH WORKER
OSSTF PSSP 6 - $51.17 - $70.96 per hour (plus vacation pay)
One (1) Temporary Full Time Position (Effective November 2025 - November 2026)
Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Mental Health Lead, the Mental Health Worker will provide direct mental health support services (individual and group) to students and provide professional learning to educators, school staff and school communities that align with the Mental Health Strategy of the Board.
Major Responsibilities:
- Collaborate and consult with teachers/school personnel /administrators with respect to supporting students experiencing emotional and/or mental health issues.
- Provide psycho-educational workshops on issues around mental health and wellbeing
- Conduct assessments of elementary students who present with mental health issues, to determine the level of support required and/or appropriate interventions strategies.
- Provide short term interventions (individual and group) to students who present with mental health needs e.g. brief structured psychotherapy programs.
- Provide a pathway to and from community mental health treatment centres, to ensure a smooth transition for students, who require more intensive therapeutic interventions.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders to develop an integrated system of care to facilitate accessing mental health services for those students who need to receive services in the community.
- Build capacity of educators so that they have a better understanding of mental health issues so that they feel better supported in aiding their students’ learning.
- Support Board policies, processes, and service delivery related to mental health programs and interventions that align with Ministry initiatives.
- Assist with Board-wide crises related to risks of self-harm.
- Maintain tracking of services offered to students to address addiction, mental health or emotional needs.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Master of Social Work or Master/PhD in Psychology (preference given to applicants able to perform the controlled act of psychotherapy)
- Member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers OR College of Psychologists of Ontario OR College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario
- 4+ years of clinical experience in children's mental health
- Preference given to applicants with experience working with school aged children and their families
- Strong interpersonal and relationship skills
- Excellent communications and presentation skills
