Digital Experience Specialist

Under the direction of the Superintendent, the Superintendent’s Department manages the operational and educational affairs of the Winnipeg School Division in accordance with the policies established by the Board of Trustees. The organization of the Division is based on a Family of Schools concept that an Assistant Superintendent oversees, who reports to the Superintendent.

The Communications Services Team is a core team of WSD’s operations division. It leads strategic external communications to the public, as well as internal communications to schools and staff. Responsibilities include media relations, social media, website management, advertising, and corporate messaging. The team also upholds the WSD brand by supporting design requests from across the division, as well as crisis communications for senior administration.

Under the supervision of the Communications Team Lead, the Digital Experience Specialist oversees the optimization of all WSD’s web-based platforms to ensure consistent, user-friendly, and inclusive experience. Digital platforms include the main divisional website, individual school websites, Employee Portal, and microsites.

This role is responsible for supporting web content strategy, enhancing the digital user experience, conducting metrics analysis, facilitating technical collaboration with vendor partners, and supporting digital accessibility compliance.



Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

•Optimize the user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) across all WSD’s digital platforms-monitor and improve navigation, readability, structure, and content needs based on user feedback and web analytics.

•Maintain and update the content on WSD’s main website to inform the public about current programming, services, news, and information-working with Communications Services team members to align on overall direction and fresh content needs.

•Maintain and update the content on WSD’s internal portal (SharePoint) to reflect internal communications needs for employees across the division.

•The main point of contact for external vendors who support WSD’s digital experience, including our content management system, website infrastructure, and digital optimization monitoring tools. Implement their recommendations to improve digital performance.

•Coordinate the rollout of web-based campaigns, including microsites and/or landing pages, in support of divisional priorities and strategic initiatives.

•Support WSD’s 78 schools in maintaining and improving their individual school websites, providing best practices advice, technical guidance, and/or training.

•Track, analyze, and report on digital performance using analytics tools (Google Analytics, etc.), making data-informed and industry recommendations to improve UX/UI.

•Lead search engine optimization (SEO), search generative optimization (SGO), tagging, and metadata standards for digital content to ensure discoverability.

•Support digital accessibility standards and plain language practices across all web and intranet platforms.

•Collaborate with Communications Services team members to ensure visual brand identity, and messaging consistency across all digital touchpoints.

•Liaise with internal IT teams to troubleshoot digital issues.

•Create, update, and maintain user guides and instructional resources for staff to support digital operations and accessibility.

•Performs other related duties within this classification not exceeding skills and capabilities as required.



Qualifications:

•A degree or diploma in digital marketing, business administration, computer programming or a related field is required.

•A minimum of three to five years’ experience in a digital marketing or web operations role in a mid-to-large organization. Experience must involve UX/UI design, behavioral tracking, content strategy, SEO implementation, and data synthesis.

•Proficiency with content management systems (CMS), Google Analytics, HTML/CSS basics, SharePoint, and accessibility auditing tools.

•Demonstrated experience organizing digital content for clarity, usability, and alignment with strategic goals, and implementing accessibility standards and SEO/SGO best practices.

•Skilled at executing paid media campaigns (Google Ads, Meta Ads) writing and editing online, and maintaining digital asset management systems for cataloging video and images.

•Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and social media platforms is an asset.

•Experience developing key performance indicators using data to inform overall plans and strategy.

•A keen interest to stay on top of industry best practices and emerging trends, particularly AI and SGO strategies.

•Possesses strong organizational and communication skills, and comfortable managing multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

•Possesses high attention to detail, sound judgment, and ability to problem-solve and work independently.

•Has an inherent understanding of maintaining website and portal information to uphold public reputation and brand awareness, as well as employee satisfaction.

•Genuine interest in supporting the public education system and student success.
