Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.
The Transplant Coordinator is primarily affiliated with the Adult Liver and Lung Transplant Programs and has the same on-call functions as the Multi-Organ Donor Coordinator of the Transplant Manitoba Gift of Life Program. In addition, the Transplant Coordinator may be requested to provide assistance to the Renal Transplant Program as required.
Under the general direction of the Manager, Patient Care and the Medical Director -Liver and Lung Programs, the incumbent is responsible for:
- Coordinating functions and activities that relate to the Transplant Manitoba- Gift of Life Program.
- Ensuring that all prerequisites for organ transplant, according to established policies, procedures and protocols, are adequately fulfilled.
- Initiating and organizing the pre-transplant evaluation according to protocol of potential recipients.
- Assisting with data collection, recording, statistical analysis, etc. under supervision and according to established protocols and clinical study guidelines (Canadian Institute for Health Research and National Institute of Health)/Canadian Transplant Registry/etc.
- Conducting educational programs for patients and their families.
- Updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), protocols and educational materials for health care professional, patients, and family-members.
- Participates in the development and maintenance of a total quality management program in compliance with Health Canada Accreditation Standards as it relates to the Transplant Manitoba Program.
- Conducting in-service education to nursing staff covering organ and tissue donation and transplantation at the professional/health care facility level.
- Minimum four years recent related nursing experience required.
- Adult Intensive Care Nursing Course or equivalent, required.
- Experience and interest in professional/public education preferred.
- Must have computer experience and be proficient to function in fully electronic environment (e.g. EPR, eChart, EMR, Accuro and Microsoft Office).
- Graduate from an approved School of Nursing required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required.
- Current registration or eligibility for registration with College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM). Responsible for maintaining and providing proof of registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM).
- Active participation in professional associations e.g. Association of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (ARNM) preferred.
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with the Employer policy.
- Must have current driver’s license and have access to a reliable vehicle with valid registration.
- Scope of practice as documented in the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA).
- Ability to work independently and creatively; as well as the ability to work collaboratively and closely with other members of the health profession.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must have exceptional interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to problem-solve in complex situations.
- Knowledge of the principles of adult learning and teaching strategies.
