Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Position Overview

Under the general direction of the Environmental Systems Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing refrigeration and air-conditioning installations and related equipment within the Health Sciences Centre. The incumbent works independently to perform routine or preventative maintenance tasks on refrigeration equipment and related building services equipment throughout the Centre, making repairs, modifying or replacing as required. Will contact appropriate personnel or service contractors when confronted with tasks beyond the capabilities or scope of this position.

Completes all assigned tasks in accordance with current Refrigeration, Ozone Depleting Substances, C.S.A. and Department of Labour codes, acts and standards. Interacts with other staff as necessary in maintaining the integrity of all refrigeration equipment maintained by HSC.

Experience
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in air-conditioning and refrigeration work required on commercial and domestic refrigeration systems.
  • Must have experience with ultra low systems.
  • Pneumatic and electric controls experience desirable.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Complete high school education, Manitoba standards, required.
  • Must be certified as a Journeyman Refrigeration Mechanic.
  • Must possess a Certificate in recognition of the Course of Studies in CFC/HCFC/HFC Control in the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Industry as prescribed by Manitoba Environment and offered by the Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Must be a Journeyman Refrigeration Mechanic as per certificate issued by the Province of Manitoba for commercial refrigeration.
  • Must have a Limited Refrigeration Electrician's License.
  • Must have ODS (Ozone Depleting Substances) certification from the Province of Manitoba.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Must be familiar with water and air cooled units using all types of refrigerants.
  • Must have a thorough and comprehensive understanding of C.S.A. safety codes, Manitoba Department of Labour codes and Ozone Depleting Substance regulations.
  • Must be able to develop and maintain detailed preventative maintenance programs for different refrigeration manufacturers' equipment.
  • Must have the ability to read blueprints, specifications, maintenance manuals and schematic drawings to repair, modify, install, troubleshoot and inspect refrigeration equipment and associated control systems and components.
  • Must have excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Position requires heavy lifting, bending, working in elevated places on various pieces of equipment (i.e. scaffolds, ladders) and the ability to work in confined spaces and enclosures.
