Temporary Facility Supervisor (G)(PM SHIFT) Facility Services

Applicants will be considered in the following order:

  • Qualified permanent ESS/OSSTF Bargaining Unit employees.

  • Qualified probationary, temporary and Temporary Hourly Rated THR ESS/OSSTF employees.

  • Qualified external applicants (includes employees from other Bargaining Units)

  • Reporting to the Facility Services Manager, the Temporary Facility Supervisor is responsible for supervising custodial, maintenance and contracted staff at 25 to 35 schools. The incumbent will work collaboratively with other members of the Facility Services team to ensure that the Board’s buildings are operated efficiently to provide clean, comfortable, and safe learning and working environment for all users.

    The successful applicant for this Temporary Educational Support Staff position, Level G ($75, 833- $92, 165) will work 40 hours per week, 12 months per year, effective October 1, 2025 - August 31, 2026.

    Responsibilities:
    • Responsible for the supervision of custodians, maintenance and contracted personnel in the assigned group of schools;
    • Work as part of the facilities services team to manage custodial care, maintenance and facility renewal, with the overall goal of providing the best learning and work environment possible within the established budget;
    • Act as a leader, coordinator, trainer, resource person and advisor to the custodians and maintenance staff in the area schools;
    • Ensure staff work safely in accordance with Board procedures and are current in all required health and safety training;
    • Coordinate the staffing in the schools of the assigned area, including: vacation schedules, coverage for absenteeism and training of new custodians and maintenance personnel;
    • Inspect the work of custodians and provide feedback to ensure schools are clean;
    • Inspect the work of maintenance personnel to ensure it is efficient and effective;
    • Work with Human Resources department to ensure that the “early and safe return to work program” is effective in assisting injured workers and meets the legislated requirements;
    • Development of positive human resource and labour management relationships;
    • Coordinate the work order process with Head Custodians and Custodial Department Heads to ensure schools are maintained and necessary work is completed;
    • Coordinate renewal work with other members of the Facility Services team;
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with area superintendent, school principals, relevant stakeholders, customers, external groups and agencies in response to inquiries, requests for assistance and advice;
    • Procurement and supervision of services for equipment and material replacement; and
    • Other duties as assigned.
    Qualifications and Experience:
    • A Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent education (from outside Canada) is required;
    • Completion of the Board’s training program in custodial care and building management or equivalent is required;
    • Minimum of 3 years experience as a “Custodial Department Head” or supervisory position, preferably in an educational setting or facility services setting;
    • Must possess outstanding leadership, interpersonal and customer service skills;
    • Must possess excellent time management and organizing skills and be comfortable working in a fast paced multi task environment;
    • Must have knowledge of current housekeeping and custodial practices and procedures;
    • Must be familiar with the Ontario Building Code, Ontario Fire Code, Electrical Safety Code and other relevant codes and standards;
    • Must have a valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle;
    • Must be familiar with a continuous improvement philosophy; and
    • Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
