The Opportunity

Responsible for the project and job execution and completion of the assigned area or discipline in accordance with the specified plan. Operational control of service activities including all relationships with all stakeholders and every step of the Project Life Cycle. We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Superintendent with strong experience in heavy industrial environments to oversee millwright, welding, and mechanical crews in the oil sands. This role is based in Fort McMurray and focuses on the safe, efficient execution of shutdowns, maintenance, and installation of equipment such as gearboxes, pumps, rotating equipment, and compressors.

The Role

  • Lead and supervise a team of millwrights, welders, and support staff on-site
  • Coordinate mechanical scopes during plant shutdowns, turnarounds, and new equipment installs
  • Oversee installation, alignment, and commissioning of gearboxes, slurry/process pumps, agitators, motors, and other rotating equipment
  • Manage field welding activities including structural modifications, and heavy equipment repair
  • Plan daily and weekly work with project managers, planners, and safety teams
  • Ensure proper rigging, lifting, and equipment handling procedures are followed
  • Conduct inspections, quality checks, and ensure all work meets engineering specifications
  • Uphold and enforce company and site-specific HSE policies, including LOTO, confined space, and hot work protocols
  • Track productivity, progress, and materials usage, ensuring work is completed on schedule and within budget
  • Liaise with clients, engineers, vendors, and site supervisors as needed

The Candidate

  • Red Seal Millwright or HET certification preferred; related experience will be considered
  • 5+ years of experience in a supervisory or superintendent capacity in oil & gas, mining, or heavy industrial projects
  • Proven experience leading mechanical teams on shutdowns, rotating equipment overhauls, or equipment installations
  • Strong knowledge of pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, and rotating machinery
  • Familiar with rigging and lifting, laser alignment, and torquing procedures
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • Valid safety tickets (H2S, CSTS, Fall Protection, Confined Space, )
  • Ability to work in a remote site environment and adapt to demanding project timelines
