Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Research Scientist to join the Centre for Clinical Epidemiology and Evaluation team in Vancouver, BC. Apply today to join our team!

As a Research Scientist, Centre for Clinical Epidemiology with VCH, you will:

  • Undertake research and training and provide evidence-based advice to advance a sustainable health system for British Columbians.
  • Provide expert consultation and project support for Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), other health authorities, governments and non-profit health care agencies in the areas of biostatistics, health economics, health technology assessment, evidence synthesis, qualitative and mixed-methods research, policy analysis and patient-oriented outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively with VCH staff and physicians, and VCH Research Institute scientists, providing qualitative methods expertise and leadership on research projects, as well as leading, developing and informing patient engagement activities within the Centre.

This work is framed within VCH’s commitments to our pillars of Indigenous Cultural Safety, Anti-Racism, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and Planetary Health.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • A PhD is required in a field related to health (e.g., public health, epidemiology, social sciences, health services research), including advanced training in qualitative and mixed methods.
  • Expertise in knowledge translation and exchange desired.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in health or social services related research is required, and in leading research programs, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated experience with qualitative data collection methods (e.g., in-depth interviews, focus groups, arts-based approaches, longitudinal data).
  • Demonstrated experience with qualitative analysis methods (e.g., reflective thematic analysis, framework analysis, grounded theory, narrative analysis).
  • Experience with participatory research methods including co-design is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct and lead research and/or knowledge translation and exchange activities and projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and foster patient engagement strategies, and work and collaborate with patient, caregiver and community partners.
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with key internal and external partners to promote and enhance services provided with sensitivity to diversity and indigenous lens.
  • Practices the recognition, inclusion and support of all types and aspects of diversity at all stages of engagement, with an understanding of the issues faced by people from equity-deserving groups.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of project management.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team, to take initiative to promote research activities.
  • Physical ability to performs duties of the position.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
