As a Social Worker with Vancouver Coastal Health, you will:

  • Work as part of an interdisciplinary team by carrying out social work assessments, developing treatment plans and providing evidence-based supportive counselling on an individual, group and family basis.
Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Current full registration with the British Columbia College of Social Workers (BCCSW).
  • Master of Social Work from an accredited education institution, plus two (2) years’ recent related experience as a social worker or a clinical social worker who provides services to families, or equivalent education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated skills in individual supportive counseling, family and group work.
  • Current professional knowledge including a working knowledge of the DSM V diagnostic classification system.
  • Understanding of available community agencies and resources to assist client; aiding in identifying new services that should be offered.
  • Applies skilled family supportive counselling theory and practice.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Ability to independently organize and carry out work assignments.
  • Ability to determine and deal effectively with emergent situations and exercise reasonable judgment when dealing with patients, families and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply Trauma Informed Principles to practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a harm reduction approach.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safe care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the scope of practice, code of ethics and standards of practice for the Registered Social Work designation under the BC College of Social Work.
  • Demonstrated understanding of health care ethics and ability to incorporate ethical decision making in practice.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of legislation and government policies and procedures as it relates to the rights of clients and obligations of staff including understanding of the Mental Health Act.
  • Broad knowledge of application of standard of practice related to professional boundaries.
  • Ability to operate related equipment including applicable software applications.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
