Job Summary

Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for an Eating Disorder Worker with a Social Services Diploma to join the Vista Eating Disorders team. Apply today to join our team!

As an Eating Disorder Worker, you will:

  • Work within a multidisciplinary residential mental health team on night shifts to monitor, observe, and document client behaviours, recognize unanticipated and emergent behaviours, report significant behaviours, and provide crisis interventions as requir
  • Provide support and establish and maintains relationships based on respect with client, their family, and their personal networks.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and supportive environment for clients and the team.
  • Engage in on-going team planning and quality improvement activities.
  • Provide ongoing support to clients to promote sleep hygiene, including assisting clients with grounding techniques, mindfulness practices, and relaxation skills.

ABOUT THE VCH EATING DISORDERS PROGRAM

The Vancouver Coastal Health Eating Disorders Program is a regional, community-based outpatient program. We have a multidisciplinary team that includes therapists, outreach counsellors, recreation therapist, dietitians, nurses, family therapist, physicians and psychiatrists. We works with children, youth and adults at various stages of their recovery process in collaboration with their Primary Care Providers and offer a mix of individual and group programming. Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Grade 12, Diploma in Social Services plus one (1) year of recent, related experience working with individuals with an eating disorder or psychiatric illness, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Emergency First Aid Certificate
  • Food Safe Certificate

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Knowledge of the principles of recovery in mental illness.
  • Knowledge of eating disorders and symptoms.
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act as it applies to the rights and obligations of clients and staff.
  • Ability to deal effectively with conflict situations, manage aggressive behaviour and use non-violent crisis intervention and behavioural management techniques.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to demonstrate and assist clients with activities of daily living.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize.
  • Ability to observe and recognize changes in clients.
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve problems.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Demonstrated skill in CPR techniques
  • Basic computer literacy to operate electronic medical record and word processing, spreadsheet, Internet and e-mail software.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
