Job Summary

Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Registered Nurse with a Master's Degree to join the Speciality Education team at Vancouver General Hospital and various regional VCH sites. Apply today to join our team!

As a Clinical Educator at VCH you will:

  • Participate in the design and development of course materials and processes to promote continuous quality improvement.
  • Apply and facilitate the educational process using principles of adult learning and competency based education in all educational activities.
  • Utilize specialized nursing knowledge and expertise in General Surgery, Gynecology/ Obstetrics, Urology, Ear/Nose/Throat Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Ophthalmology, Vascular Surgery, Neurosurgery, Orthopedic Surgery, and Thoracic Surgery to guide students in the provision of safe care in the clinical Perioperative area.
  • Consult and collaborate with interdisciplinary team members and educators to coordinate activities and experiences, to ensure a positive learning environment.
  • Evaluate student progress and resolves difficult clinical situations.
  • Prepare interactive lecture sessions, observing, supporting and guiding students in clinical setting, acting as a resource for students, evaluating student progress, acting as a liaison between the training program and hospital personnel, maintaining training records and manuals and participating in direct patient care as necessary.
Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Five (5) years’ recent, related Perioperative nursing experience in a broad range of surgical specialties such as General Surgery, Gynecology/Obstetrics, Urology, Ear/Nose/Throat Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Ophthalmology, Vascular Surgery, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, and Thoracic Surgery, including one (1) year's related teaching experience as well as experience mentoring and preceptoring, facilitating group processes and team building, and experience in orientation/education program design, development, implementation and evaluation or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Masters in Adult Education preferred.
  • Local area travel may be required.

  • Broad knowledge of nursing science theory, and practice within a patient/family centred care model.
  • Broad knowledge of educational theory.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of BCCNM standards for nursing practice.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of clinical practice related to Perioperative nursing.
  • Broad knowledge of hospital policies, procedures, and standards of care.
  • Broad knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in patient care.
  • Broad knowledge of research methodology and processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as an effective team member, leader, facilitator, mentor and preceptor.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach, demonstrate, facilitate and coach.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop educational programs and material.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote a creative learning environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and non-verbally, with students, other members of the interdisciplinary team, patient and families, either one-on-one and in-groups.
    Demonstrated ability to manage complex learning situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote a creative learning environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, collaborate, and consult with others in an effective and respectful way.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • Skill in the use of equipment and in techniques appropriate to Perioperative nursing.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with and/or guide others in resolution of conflict issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively and efficiently in emergency situations and guide others in order to deliver quality patient care.
  • Demonstrated skill in CPR techniques.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including the ability to effectively use word-processing, spreadsheet.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
