QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Ontario College Diploma in related field
  • Extensive experience in verification, calibration, and use of common and specialized lab equipment including, but not limited to magnetic stirrer, hot plate, micropipettes, autoclave, balances, laminar flow hood, pH meter preffered, but willing to train.
  • Experience with statistical analyses, scientific writing, and Good Documentation Practice.
  • Capable of working independently and in teams; comfortable with risk and uncertainty.
  • Detail-oriented, problem solver, promotes a team environment
  • Experience in leadership/management is preferred
  • Ability to quickly adapt to a flexible and changing schedule
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and a proactive approach to all tasks on hand
  • Highly motivated, self-starter; demanding excellence.
  • Good time management and organizational skills
  • Social and networking skills are desirable.

Responsibilities:

  • Initiation of new material of different fruit crops and transfer the technical knowledge to the new research technicians.
  • Micropropagation and maintaining the initiated fruit crops under sterile environments.
  • Maintain cleanliness by following Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for the sterilization process.
  • Operating and maintaining laminar flow hood.
  • Preparing and pouring the media for research as and when required.
  • Performing daily activities such as cleaning of tools and vessels for research purposes, preparation of toolboxes, cutting paper bags.
  • Observations and documentation of experiments and routine cuttings.
  • Coordinating with the research manager by participating in biweekly meetings and giving regular updates.
  • Following well-defined procedures as outlined by SOPs & work instructions. Taking direction from the Manager regarding daily duties.
  • Independently making decisions and utilizing available resources to meet production requirements.
  • Communicating any issues or potential problems
  • Working effectively with a diverse cross-functional team
