General Purpose

Reporting to the Associate Director, Capital Development and Project Delivery, in the Campus Planning, Design and Development Department, the Senior Construction Coordinator will be responsible for providing high-quality, timely and effective coordination of construction projects. This position will be responsible for numerous projects simultaneously, with individual project values ranging up to several million dollars.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review construction for general compliance to applicable codes and legislative requirements related to safety and construction methods.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable University and government policies, procedures, regulations and guidelines.
  • Implement policy and procedures for cost effective, efficient and safe management of construction and maintenance work.
  • Review the work of off-campus contractors to verify that construction is in general conformance with the contract documents and installation standards set out by industry practices.
  • Ensure schedules and deadlines are met by coordinating the work with contractors and University personnel.
  • Liaise with the University community, contractors, consultants and inspection agencies before, during and after construction.
  • Participate in prequalification of consultants and contractors.
  • Use project management software daily to coordinate day to day construction activities.
  • Other associated duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A three-year community college diploma in related discipline, and several years’ relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Broad experience in architecture and engineering.
  • Sound knowledge of construction industry codes and legislation.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication (oral and written) and negotiating skills.
  • Proficiency with the MS Office software.

What Will Give You The Edge?

  • Experience coordinating projects in a post-secondary environment.
  • Experience with Project Management software.
  • Related designation such as, Association of Architectural Technologists of Ontario, Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technologists and Technicians.

The target hiring salary for this position is minimum and up to 96% of midpoint for the salary grade.
