General Purpose
The Office of Teaching and Learning (OTL) supports the University’s pedagogical mission and provides expertise to sustain a focus on the complex educational landscape that our faculty, instructors and learners experience. An important part of our mandate is supporting instructors in their development as expert teachers and facilitating and supporting a community of practice in which dedicated teachers interact, learn and support each other. We offer an extensive range of programming and collaborate and partner with individual faculty, academic departments, academic support units and the broader community to enrich and innovate teaching with the goal of creating an educational environment where students are academically challenged, actively engaged, and personally supported.
We are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for a continuing, full-time, Educational Developer (ED) on our team.
Duties and Responsibilities
Using evidence-based approaches and a strong grounding in inclusive educational approaches, the Educational Developer (ED) works with educators and provides expertise to enhance pedagogical practices at the University of Guelph. The position will provide leadership and expertise in developing and facilitating evidence-informed practices and initiatives for faculty, teaching assistants, and other educators across all academic disciplines at the University of Guelph. In this role the incumbent will collaborate and partner with faculty, chairs, Associate Deans and other Offices across campus to accomplish the following:
- Collaborating on innovative course development, delivery and assessment, including the meaningful and responsible integration of generative AI and AI into course and assessment design;
- Designing and facilitating interdisciplinary and discipline-specific workshops, programs and initiatives, including workshops and institutes on course design and assessment design;
- Developing accessible online and print based resources;
- Guiding curriculum review and curriculum development at the program level;
- Supporting the institutional cyclical program review process;
- Advancing an outcomes-based approach to education;
- Engaging in research related to teaching and learning in higher education;
- Disseminating knowledge on teaching and learning through a variety of channels;
- Leading and participating in teaching and learning initiatives at a local, provincial and national level.
Requirements
- A Master’s degree in education or a related field (Ph.D. preferred), and four years of related job experience in educational development, preferably in a university setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A thorough understanding of pedagogical literature (including active learning, strategies for student engagement, and inclusive educational practices).
- Demonstrate superb communication skills in all modalities (written, visual, oral etc) and collaborate effectively with faculty members, disciplinary professionals, post-doctoral instructors, teaching assistants, educational support staff, and University Administrators.
- Experience teaching in higher education and knowledge of the University of Guelph, the strategic directions, curricular processes, and academic and support units.
- Experience conducting educational research and contributing to the scholarship of teaching and learning.
- Strong educational development abilities at the post-secondary level, including: facilitative leadership; consultative decision-making; inclusive instructional design; aligned assessment and evaluation; program design and planning; project management and the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate how their well-established educational development philosophy contributes to advising committees; proposing recommendations; making decisions, and evaluating outcomes and success.

The target hiring salary for this position is minimum and up to 96% of midpoint for the salary grade.
