General Purpose

The Experiential Learning department plays a critical role in fostering student success and employability and supports the institution’s commitment to providing students with opportunities to apply their learning in real-world contexts. The department provides career development for UofG students including co-operative education, career education, campus and community-integrated learning, and experiential learning development and recognition. These areas are supported by business operations, marketing and communications, employment services and systems. The University has the second largest co-operative education program in Ontario, with over 7,000 participating students. Thousands more students engage in a broad range of co-curricular learning opportunities both on and off-campus.

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Co-operative Education, the Co-op Coordinator is responsible for:

  • Developing new and maintaining existing employer relationships to support and expand engagement with co-operative education and the University of Guelph
  • Marketing and promoting co-op and the University of Guelph throughout all sectors of the economy, associations, and tradeshows
  • Maintaining in-depth labour market insight, analyzing shifts in technology and economics
  • Providing advisement and guidance to co-op students in assigned programs on job search strategies, employability skills (professional and transferable) and career development while the student is seeking employment and while on a work term
  • Preparing co-op students for their first work term. Responsible for developing and delivering recruitment preparation workshops and events each semester.
  • Conducting co-op work term visits to monitor student learning and work performance; and ensuring that sufficient job quantity, diversity and experience levels are available for co-op students
  • Advising on issues related to employment barriers and issues of workplace accommodation, needs of a diverse client population (e.g., Indigenous, racialized, and LGBTQ2IA+ students and students with disabilities, etc.)

Requirements

Requirements of the position include:

  • An undergraduate degree in a related field
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ relevant experience in employer development, relationship management, marketing, cooperative education, experiential education, career advising/coaching or a field related to engineering or technology.
  • Applicants should demonstrate excellent communication, marketing and account management, sales, and public relations skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion principles and have experience supporting diverse communities, including Indigenous people, women, newcomers, visible minorities, persons with disabilities, and persons of any sexual orientation or gender identity
  • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and triage obligations
  • Ability to adhere to existing operational processes within a team
  • Must also demonstrate strong knowledge of relevant job markets for co-op programs, and the ability to work well with a diverse group of clients/stakeholders (i.e. employers, students, faculty)
  • Knowledge of co-operative education, career counselling, human resource practices, labour market analysis, employment law is an asset
  • Knowledge of the University academic programs and procedures is an asset

The target hiring salary for this position is minimum and up to 96% of midpoint for the salary grade.
