Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) encompasses the municipalities of the City of Kawartha Lakes, Haliburton County, and the District Municipality of Muskoka. With approximately 16,000 students, TLDSB has 41 elementary schools, seven secondary schools, and six Adult and Alternate Education Centres.
The Finance Officer shares the responsibility for assisting with School Generated Funds and School, Bursary administration, and provides assistance with the internal audit function. The position is responsible for the completion of monthly bank reconciliations, HST remittances, prepares departmental journal entries, and processes and scrutinizes journal entries provided to the Accounting department. This role is vital in ensuring accurate recordkeeping of School Generate Funds of which various communities in our District have significant interest.
The Finance Officer provides support and acts as a financial resource to school secretarial staff on a constant basis with respect to the administration of their school generated funds and as a resource to secretarial and administrative staff with respect to operating and departmental budget inquiries and queries.
Overall, the incumbent in this position will contribute to student achievement and the TLDSB Mission Statement by ensuring that Board stakeholders have access to timely and accurate school generated fund financial information for reporting and decision making purposes.
Primary Responsibilities include:
Provide Operational and Security Support for School Generated Funds (SGF) software system including:
Training and d aily support to school secretarial staff as both a financial expertise resource and technical support;
Support in maintaining all related records;
Ensures each school has prepared their annual SGF Financial Statements and provides expertise to staff that require assistance;
Completes the year end rollover of the financial system in the SGF software for all schools in the district;
Liaises with the current SGF software vendor.
Operational Duties of the Financial System including :
Responsible for the completion of the monthly bank reconciliations for the Board bank accounts
Preparing and filing of monthly HST remittances
Prepares and processes journal entries as requested from schools, departments, and accounting clerks
Coding of miscellaneous receipts and review of deposits prepared by the Accounting Clerk before it is taken to the bank
Administration of Several Board Bursary and Scholarship Funds Accounts including:
Investments and payments. This includes decision-making with respect to investment renewals for highest return over a period of time.
Performs Internal Audits including:
School funds, accounts payable, and/or compliance testing as required.
Preparation of reports of the results and recommendations.
Support for Accounting Manager including:
Performance of some duties of the Accou nting manager in their absence
Provide support/guidance to other Accounting Department team members as needed
Education:
3 y ear College d iploma in Accounting, Business, Finance or related field
Experience:
3 years experience in accou nting work, including experience in preparation of financial statements, budgets, and reports
Knowledge/Skill/Ability:
In depth knowledge of computerized accounting systems
Proficient in generally accepted accounting principles
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated accuracy, attentional to detail, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Ability to function independently and as a member of a team, deal with confidential information and manage rigid timelines
