Description
The Wolf Creek Education Centre is an institutional school operated by Wolf Creek Public Schools, that provides education programs for hospital inpatients in the Centennial Centre for Mental Health and Brain Injury (CCMHBI) in Ponoka Alberta. The Wolf Creek Education Centre is contracted to provide literacy, numeracy, and cognitive instruction for students ages 16 to 65 who have an acquired brain injury, mental health disorder, and/or concurrent disorder. The primary focus of the school is to provide educational rehabilitation as an integral part of the interdisciplinary team of the Halvar Johnson Centre for Brain Injury within CCMHBI.
This unique teaching position offers enhanced opportunities for one-on-one instruction, flexible days off, and team leadership.
Assignment:
- Part-time 0.79 FTE probationary teaching position
- Year round (12 month) school program in a hospital setting operating in a non-traditional school calendar.
- September to June 0.60 FTE, July and August 1.0 FTE
- Dependent on the number of specified teacher days in a given school year, this position usually accumulates 13 to 16 extra days to take in-lieu (vacation days) which works out to roughly one month off in total.
- Responsible for pre-assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating goal-based Individual Program Plans for every student within an assigned caseload
- Interdisciplinary team member responsibilities include: participation in weekly conferences, submission of weekly case summary notes, and preparation of student admission and transition/discharge reports.
- Duties to commence August 1, 2025 and will continue until August 29, 2026
Qualifications:
- Experience collaborating with interdisciplinary teams would be considered an asset
- Experience working with persons with acquired brain injuries, significant learning difficulties, mental health disorders and/or medical needs would be considered an asset
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong planning and organizational skills
- Level B Assessment training would be considered an asset
- Willingness to work in a team-oriented learning environment
- Assessment literate
- Willingness to address significant learning curve at onset due to uniqueness of the teaching position
- Ability to utilize varied instructional strategies to meet a wide range of individual needs
- Commitment to ongoing professional growth
- Strong technology and 21st Century Learning Skills
