SENIOR INTERNAL AUDITOR

Salary Range: $83,347 - $104,178 per year

1.0 FTE Permanent

The Simcoe County District School Board is the host board for this position in the Barrie Region which consists of the following Ontario school boards: Simcoe County DSB (host), Bluewater DSB, Bruce-Grey Catholic DSB, Durham Catholic DSB, Durham District DSB, Kawartha Pine Ridge DSB, Peterborough VNC Catholic DSB, Simcoe Muskoka Catholic DSB, Trillium Lakelands DSB. Reporting directly to the Regional Internal Audit Manager of the region, the Senior Internal Auditor is responsible for the planning, execution and reporting of risk based internal audits of varying complexity for the school boards within the region. Travel within the region required.



QUALIFICATIONS

  • University degree and a professional accounting designation (e.g., CPA, CA, CGA, CMA) and/or internal audit designation (CIA) are required;
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of relevant work experience conducting financial and operational risk-based internal audits;
  • Knowledge of IIA standards, accounting principles, practices, and audit methodologies;
  • Excellent research, problem solving and analytical skills;
  • Effective time management and organizational skills;
  • Proven leadership and change management skills;
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Demonstrated computer skills (including word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, and audit software);
  • Strong interpersonal skills to maintain relationships with colleagues, external auditors, and other internal and external stakeholders;
  • The candidate is a detailed and results oriented individual with the ability to prioritize and multi-task with minimal supervision;
  • Knowledge of the school board sector, CAATS and experience in IT audits would be an asset;
  • Other duties as assigned.



RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Leading, planning and executing risk based operational reviews, internal audits, and consulting engagements for an assigned group of Schools Boards’ within the Barrie Region;
  • Preparing and presenting the Regional Internal Audit update to Audit Committees as well as responding to queries regarding planned work across the region, audit reports and findings;
  • Documenting, testing, and evaluating the internal controls of the schools boards within the region;
  • Performing risk assessments;
  • Preparing audit working papers to document findings and conclusions;
  • Preparing draft audit reports;
  • Contributing to the development and improvements to audit methodology and templates;
  • Analyzing, resolving, and reporting on complex issues as they arise;
  • Participating in special projects as requested by the Regional Internal Audit Manager, school Board Management and/or Audit Committees. This includes in-service/presentation of audit results to all levels of the school board;
  • The successful candidate must have a valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation and be willing to travel to the listing of below school boards.

This position works 12 months of the year. The compensation range for this position is $83,347 to $104,178 per year. This position also receives an annual stipend in the amount of $5,000 per year. This position is based on a thirty-five (35) hour work week.

Participation in the OMERS Pension Plan is mandatory for all full-time permanent employees, even if currently in receipt of an OMERS pension.
