COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER/CONTENT CREATOR
Salary Range: $68,926 to $86,157 per year
1.0 FTE - Temporary position (July 2025 to August 2026)
The Communications Officer/Content Creator will focus on developing engaging video, visual, and written content for websites, social media, and marketing platforms that align with the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) Strategic Priorities. The Communications Officer/Content Creator will follow the SCDSB Corporate Standards and Visual Brand Standards to ensure consistency and brand recognition. The Communications Officer/Content Creator will develop content suitable for various platforms and the audiences served by the SCDSB to help promote confidence in public education. The Communications Officer/Content Creator will track and measure the impact and reach of communication efforts across all platforms and provide statistics to the Manager of Communications. The Communications Officer/Content Creator will support the Communications department with planning public campaigns and activities, monitoring social media channels, and providing communication support to schools and departments.
Responsibilities:
· Create and share positive social media content that aligns with the SCDSB Strategic Priorities and promotes the board.
· Develop and maintain editorial calendar and ensure timely delivery of content.
· Write, edit, and distribute communication documents including media releases, website content, and video scripts.
· Provide editorial and proof-reading services for internal departments.
· Design graphics for social media, web, and marketing/promotional resources.
· Provide communications support with special events including school openings, anniversaries and closings, new construction, and partnerships/community use.
· Support Communications Department and system by attending meetings, community events, and system events, including after hours, as required.
· Collaborate with Communications Department staff on shared projects and communications plans as needed.
· Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills Required:
· Three (3) year College Diploma or University Degree in communications, public relations, marketing, graphic design, journalism, or equivalent program;
· Experience in a large complex public sector organization, preferably in an education environment;
· Superior written and oral communications skills; proficiency in MS Office, design and video production programs/software, Apple iPhone technology, Adobe Creative suit, and social media/digital marketing platforms;
· Enthusiasm for working as part of a small team responsible for internal and external communications in a public education environment that includes more than 100 schools and a range of centralized services and departments;
· Graphic design skills.
This is a full-time temporary position (July 2025 to August 2026), with the possibility of an extension. The regular work year for this position is twelve (12) months of the year. The compensation range for this twelve (12) month position is $68,926 - $86,157 per year, depending on qualifications and experience. The normal work week for this position is thirty-five (35) hours. This position requires the successful candidate to work on-site at the Education Centre.
Participation in the OMERS Pension Plan is mandatory for all full-time permanent employees,
even if currently in receipt of an OMERS pension.
