Senior Data Center Technician to deploy and install hardware into two local datacenters for a crown corporation client

Our valued crown corporation client is looking for a Senior Data Center Technician to deploy and install hardware into two local datacenters!


Initial 1-year contract in Ottawa, ON with strong possibility of extension for a total term of 3 years. Fully on-site. 7.5 hours per day, Monday to Friday (37.5 hours/week). On-call and occasional overtime work will be required as part of the role. Standard pay for on-call support is 1 hr per 24 hr on-call period.


As the successful candidate you will play a key role in supporting the evergreening of outdated data center hardware and installing brand-new equipment in two local data centers in the NCR. You will be required to participate in an on-call rotation for the team and occasionally provide overtime support. You may also be requested to travel to remote sites in Western Canada to provide support for other data centers in the area.


Responsibilities

  • Deploy and install hardware into two local datacenters in the National Capital Region.
  • Coordinate with Service Providers for non-local datacenters.
  • Troubleshoot hardware installation issues.
  • Respond to project and operation demands received via ServiceNow.
  • Deploy network cabling (copper and fiber).
  • Maintain detailed documentation of all deployed IT assets and of the DCIM tool.
  • Replace failed hardware components on systems (i.e., RAM, Hard Drives, cables, power supply, PDU’s, etc.).
  • Coordinate Return Merchandise Authorizations with manufacturers.
  • Validate completed onsite third-party support work against the agreed-upon scope, reporting any variances or concerns to their manager.


Must-Have Skills

  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience in installation and power-up (Rack & Stack) of servers, peripherals, and network equipment.
  • 3+ years of experience supporting Data Center operations / IT Operations work
  • Demonstrated experience of cabling infrastructure, as well as, maintaining documentation of newly installed infrastructure devices.
  • Demonstrated understanding of data center facilities infrastructure, such as HVAC, service entrances, UPS, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate onsite support of third-party contractors performing infrastructure projects, preventative maintenance, or testing.
