DR Coordinator & DR Modernization Lead to design and implement disaster recovery modernization using cloud-based technologies

Our client is seeking a DR Coordinator & DR Modernization Lead to design and implement disaster recovery modernization using cloud-based technologies in the enterprise technology organization - 01118

2 components: 1. Maintaining existing DR environment (includes coordination, updating documentation and procedures, leadership) and 2. Modernization of enterprise disaster recovery capabilities, transitioning on-premise recovery to cloud-based solutions and managing compliance, testing, and operational readiness.

Contract goes till Feb 26, 2027 (this is a mat leave coverage). Hybrid - North Vancouver, open to remote in PST hours (please note there would be some after work hours involved due to unit testing requirements etc, approx 1-2 times a month). 40 hours/week.

Must Haves

• 7+ years in technology delivery, with 3+ years focused on Disaster Recovery or Operational Resilience
• Experience coordinating infrastructure, cloud, and application recovery solutions to meet RTO/RPO objectives
• Strong understanding of cloud-based DR patterns such as backup/restore, warm standby, and active/active
• Hands-on knowledge of Infrastructure as Code and automation tools (e.g., CloudFormation, scripting)
• Proficient in enterprise backup, replication, and observability platforms

Nice to Have

• Experience with AWS disaster recovery and cloud-native services
• Exposure to incident and problem management frameworks
• Background in operational continuity within regulated environments
• Public sector or large enterprise experience
• Certification in cloud architecture or resilience management

Key Job Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

• Delivery lead for Disaster Recovery Modernization (DRMN), transitioning recovery capabilities from on premise to cloud. Accountable for delivery planning, dependency management, RAID tracking, milestone execution, and stakeholder communication.

• Own and continuously improve the existing enterprise Disaster Recovery (DR) program, including policies, standards, governance, compliance, and application onboarding.

• Define, track, and report DR compliance and metrics, including coverage, test outcomes, RTO/RPO attainment, and remediation status.

• Plan, coordinate, and execute DR exercises (tabletop and technical failover/failback), including facilitation of postmortem reviews and lessons learned.

• Ensure DR plans, playbooks, runbooks, and test artefacts are current and reflect evolving platforms and architectures.

• Partner with technology and application teams to ensure DR strategies align with business recovery requirements and tiering.

• Drive cross functional coordination across infrastructure, cloud, application, security, and operations teams to deliver DRMN outcomes.

• Contribute to the cloud DR operating model, including operational readiness and handover to run teams.

• Define and implement a cloud-to-cloud DR program, including documentation and enrollment processes.

• Provide DR guidance and recovery coordination support during major incidents, as required.

Deliverables:

• DRMN delivery artefacts (plans, dependencies, RAID, communications) are maintained and program milestones are achieved.

• DR modernization standards and controls are defined, adopted, and supported by audit ready evidence. This includes refreshing all required documents, templates, response plans & processes.

• DR tests and exercises are planned, coordinated, and executed in alignment with change management practices (after hours execution required for some tests).

• Post exercise lessons learned and remediation actions are tracked to closure.

• DR program compliance metrics are reported and met.

• All DR playbooks and runbooks are reviewed and updated bi annually.

• DR and DRMN documentation, operating processes, & ownership models are in place.

• DR governance forums and enterprise tabletop exercises are facilitated.

• A documented cloud to cloud DR program and enrollment process is delivered and communicated.
