POSITION

Worksite: Chilliwack Secondary School

Contract Type: Temporary, Part-Time (40% - Wednesday/Friday)

Assignment Area(s): School Counsellor

Salary Range: $59,711 to $109,520 (range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance to the collective agreement)

Effective Date: September 1, 2025, until no later than October 13, 2025

Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Master's degree, recognized by the College of Teachers, in counselling psychology or a related discipline with a focus on behaviour disorders and counselling.
  • Knowledge of, and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Education's current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as outlined in the Manual of Policies, Procedures and Guidelines for Special Education Services, as it relates to behavior and mental health support.
  • Demonstrated ability to collect behavioural information and performing behavioural screening and/or assessments in order to complete Functional Behavioural Assessments.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of CBIEPs in consultation with the classroom teacher(s), parent(s), student and district personnel.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to implement teaching practices that align with the Professional Standards for BC Educators.
  • Demonstrated successful Secondary School experience in school based counselling
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with a school timetable and the ability to extensively utilize online scheduling tools such as MyEdBC
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with secondary curriculum, graduation requirements and post-secondary opportunities
  • Extensive experience with and knowledge of the BC Graduation Plan and ensuring students are progressing on their graduation plan
  • Successful experience with Graduation Transitions and the various graduation plan options
  • Extensive experience working with students in care and students on youth agreements
  • Demonstrated experience working with international students, coordinating their plans, and assessing transcripts
  • Excellent leadership, organizational and coordination skills
  • Demonstrated experience with and understanding of bursary and scholarship opportunities and processes
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate students who are disadvantaged or have dysfunctional behaviour patterns to attend school regularly
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and proven ability to access community services for students and their families
  • Experience in all School Based Team processes and being a positively contributing member of SBT
  • Demonstrated experience working positively with Indigenous students and communities
  • Proven ability to inspire and support confidence and self-worth in adolescents
  • Demonstrated ability to be a case manager and positively advocate for students
  • Demonstrated excellent listening skills, mediation skills, and conflict resolution skills
  • Willingness to work in a collaborative manner with staff, administration, and parents
  • Ability to aid students in learning to structure their time to achieve academic success
