POSITION

Worksite: Watson Elementary School

Contract Type: Temporary, Part-Time (60% - Wednesday, Thursday and Friday)

Assignment Area(s): Primary - Kindergarten

Salary Range: $59,711 to $109,520 (range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance to the collective agreement)

Effective Date: September 1, 2025, until not later than June 30, 2026

Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience:

  • extensive academic training, professional preparation, and qualifications in teaching in all areas of this assignment
  • knowledge of and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Education's current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as applied to all areas of this assignment
  • knowledge of and demonstrated ability to implement teaching practices that align with the Professional Standards for BC Educators.
  • relevant training and experience in teaching Kindergarten or early Primary
  • a demonstrated ability and a commitment to embed the Learning Standards in a play-based curriculum conducive to the social/emotional, academic, and physical development of young learners
  • knowledge of and demonstrated ability in addressing the wide range of academic, social, emotional, and behavioural needs of children
  • proven experience with maintaining and/or establishing effective classroom management that includes well established routines and implementation of behavioural support and/or adaptations for all students to experience success with their learning.
  • demonstrated ability to select, modify or adapt instructional materials to meet the individual academic, social/emotional, and behavioural needs of students
  • experience, training in, and a willingness to carry out the District Early Intervention Screens such as the KLST (Kindergarten Language Screening Test)
  • the ability to utilize a variety of assessment processes that effectively allow students to show what they know (assessment for, as, of learning), and allow the teacher to plan for/adjust instruction to meet the collective and individual learning needs of students
  • familiarity with, and a proven ability to utilize a wide variety of literacy strategies with young learners including, but not limited to, oral language programs such as Moe the Mouse and Talking Tables and a balanced literacy program to promote reading readiness and early writing skills
  • demonstrated knowledge of and experience with applying effective strategies to support the development of literacy skills; preference will be given to individuals with successful experience with balanced literacy, Guided Reading and Daily 5 strategies
  • demonstrated knowledge of and successful experience with applying effective strategies to support the development of numeracy skills, including use of SNAP, small group instruction and intervention
  • demonstrated knowledge, experience, and willingness to teach self-regulation strategies and mindfulness to support the social/emotional needs of the primary student
  • knowledge, experience, and willingness to support the Aboriginal Enhancement Agreement goals
  • commitment to working with colleagues in an open, accepting manner in order to promote a strong and caring professional learning community
  • willingness to implement the goals of our school plan: high level achievement in literacy and numeracy; apply critical, creative, and reflective thinking; enhance personal and social responsibility
