POSITION

Worksite: Watson Elementary School

Contract Type: Temporary, Full-Time

Assignment Area(s): ELL & PE Prep Teacher (+ Grade 4/5 teacher relief)

Salary Range: $59,711 to $109,520 (range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance to the collective agreement)

Effective Date: September 1, 2025 but not later than December 19, 2025

Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience:

  • extensive academic training and post graduate coursework in the following areas: supporting students with special needs; assessment/testing theory and practice (Level B); strategies for adapting and modifying curriculum
  • knowledge of, and demonstrated effective application of the Ministry of Education's current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as outlined in the Manual of Policies, Procedures and Guidelines for Special Education Services
  • Specialized course work in the following areas of ELL teaching methodology, cross-cultural sensitization, multicultural studies, and applied linguistics.
  • Experience teaching landed immigrant and international students.
  • Knowledge of ELL Ministry of Education eligibility criteria for 1701 reporting.
  • Experience in school based assessment practices and conducting level B assessments .
  • Experience in developing Annual Individual Plans (AIPs).
  • Enowledge of current best practices in education.
  • ELL educator consulting with classroom teacher, classroom assistant and/or teaching assistant.
  • ELL educator co-planning with classroom teacher.
  • ELL educator and classroom teacher co-teaching or team teaching within the regular classroom.
  • ELL educator delivering small-group instruction.
  • Direct skill-building instruction/support to an individual student.
  • Classroom teacher using differentiation (e.g. adaptations, supplementary curriculum materials, accommodations).
  • Collaborative planning with individual student regarding language goals and strategies.
  • Preference given to candidates with a Human Kinetics Degree or equivalent required human kinetics including a PE teaching area
  • preference given to candidates with course work at the 300/400 level in the following areas: Dance, Gymnastics, Outdoor Pursuits, Motor Development and Physical Maturation, Strength and Conditioning Training, Exercise Physiology, Athletic Training and Sports Injuries, Instructional Analysis and Design in Physical Education Programs, Health Promotion and Physical Activity
  • strong commitment to excellence in teaching and demonstrated successful experience in teaching all components of a well-rounded, balanced, and effective Physical Education program at the elementary level including Dance, Gymnastics, and Outdoor Pursuits
  • proven experience and demonstrated commitment to using a variety of fitness tools/assessments and developing individualized fitness goals to enhance student fitness levels and promote the enjoyment of fitness
  • ability to design and implement a variety of assessment practices in Physical Education to measure and monitor student progress effectively
  • proven ability to analyse student performance data to improve the school's PE program
  • demonstrated ability to co-ordinate and manage a time schedule that requires excellent organizational and communication skills
  • demonstrated commitment and willingness to work collaboratively with staff, parents and administration in order to support all students through an RTI system and student-centered model
  • demonstrated experience in teaching using a balanced literacy approach
  • demonstrated effectiveness using the District Assessment Tools, including administration of the KLST
  • demonstrated effective classroom management, behaviour management and organizational skills
  • demonstrated commitment to becoming involved and positively contributing to the culture of the school and commitment to support PBS and school-wide initiatives
  • demonstrated commitment to continuing Professional Development
  • must have a current First-Aid and CPR certificate
