Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience:
- Extensive academic training, professional preparation, and qualifications in teaching in all areas of this assignment.
- Knowledge of, and demonstrated application of, the Ministry of Education's current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as applied to all areas of this assignment.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to implement teaching practices that align with the Professional Standards for BC Educators.
- demonstrated knowledge and experience of effective strategies to support the development of literacy skills at the Primary level; preference will be given to individuals possessing training and experience in Running Records, Balanced Literacy, Daily 5, and Guided Reading small group instruction
- training and experience using high yield routines, small group instruction, and Daily 3 for Math to support balanced numeracy instruction
- demonstrated ability to use a variety of formative and summative assessments to plan for daily instruction, including the ACT, PM Benchmarks, School Wide Write, and SNAP
- knowledge of and demonstrated ability in addressing the wide range of academic, social, emotional and behavioural needs of children
- able to adapt learning material and provide accommodations for students working towards goals of a Competency Based Inclusive Education Plan
- demonstrated excellence in classroom management, behavioural management and organizational skills
- demonstrated strength in media literacy skills and the ability to apply skills as instructional tools to support learning in the classroom
- excellent interpersonal communication skills with students, staff and parents
- commitment to supporting PBS and school-wide initiatives (i.e. Student Leadership, Check-in and Classroom Circles)
- knowledge of and demonstrated ability to support students through a variety of social/emotional strategies and trauma informed practices
- demonstrated ability in the application of current brain-based strategies as they relate to self-regulation, mindful behaviour and social emotional learning
- demonstrated willingness to implement the goals and strategies of the school growth plan and a format of collective responsibility to support student achievement and SEL
- ongoing commitment to professional development and currency in the craft of teaching
- demonstrated commitment to working with students, staff, parents and administration in an open, accepting manner in order to promote a strong and caring professional learning community
