Central Okanagan Public Schools is located in the Central Okanagan encompassing the communities of Peachland, West Kelowna, Kelowna, and Lake Country. We invite applications for the position of:

Maintenance Worker - Irrigation

Under the supervision of the Director of Operations or designate, this position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation and sprinkler systems, and assists with other grounds maintenance duties as required. Work locations may vary depending on assigned projects.

Duties and responsibilities include:

Irrigation Systems Installation and Maintenance

  • install and maintain irrigation and sprinkler systems;
  • read and interpret irrigation installation drawings, landscaping plans, and specifications;
  • create and maintain asbuilt documentation;
  • estimate and quote job requirements;
  • program irrigation systems and adjust watering patterns as required;
  • operate and maintain equipment;
  • complete and maintain required documentation including work orders.
Grounds Maintenance
  • prepare and maintain grounds, lawns, play fields, playground equipment, trees, and shrubs;
  • assist with fencing, planting, mowing, snow removal, and small equipment operation as required.
Communication
  • communicate effectively with staff and others.

The successful candidate must have:

  • completed Grade 12;
  • Low Voltage Certificate of Qualification as required by the Electrical Safety Branch for Irrigation Electrical Systems;
  • Level 1 Irrigation Certificate;
  • Cross Connection Control Certificate;
  • minimum three (3) years' experience installing and maintaining commercial underground sprinkler systems and landscape installations;
  • demonstrated knowledge of irrigation design and the ability to read and interpret detailed plans and specifications;
  • demonstrated knowledge of irrigation programming and watering patterns;
  • experience operating small powered equipment up to and including a bobcat with attachments;
  • demonstrated knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations and current BC construction and maintenance safety requirements;
  • valid BC Driver's License;
  • basic computer skills and literacy;
  • completion of required Health & Safety training;
  • ability to work with minimal supervision, independently and as part of a team;
  • physical capability to perform the duties of the position;
  • strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

The following would be considered an asset:

  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certificate;
  • First Aid Level 1 Certificate.

This is a permanent fulltime position with a regular schedule of 40 hours per week at a wage rate of $29.83 per hour, plus a comprehensive employee benefit package including extended health and dental coverage, shortterm and longterm disability insurance, and participation in a defined benefit pension plan.
