The Opportunity
Rocky View Schools (RVS) invites applications for Seasonal Grounds Worker position (40 hrs/wk) at the Education Centre located in Airdrie. This position is available starting April 27, 2026 until August 28, 2026.
Working conditions are primarily outside under all weather conditions. This work is physically demanding and may involve some heavy lifting, prolonged bending and kneeling.
Responsibilities Include
- Performs tasks associated with maintenance and support of outdoor areas within RVS, including mowing turf, trimming fence lines, parking lot clean up, litter control, sport field grooming, hard and soft landscape construction projects, fence and sign repair, weeding tree and mulch beds, playground safety and irrigation support
- Safely operates applicable equipment in accordance with all relevant legislation, policies and procedures
- Ensures equipment and tools are stored in a safe and secure manner, clean and in good operating order
- Ensures the work area is maintained in a clean and orderly manner
- Conducts daily site hazard assessments, correcting unsafe conditions and following RVS hazard reporting procedures to ensure the safety of RVS staff and visitors
- Provides input to enhance overall safety, improvements and efficiencies
- Maintains accurate and timely records of hours worked, safety requirements, maintenance schedules, inspections, and repairs performed
Education/Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in the field of grounds maintenance would be an asset
- Possessing a valid Driver’s license with the appropriate classification pertaining to the class of vehicle being operated is considered an asset
- 3-year clear Drivers abstract (if possessing a valid driver's license). Must be within RVS Driver and Fleet safety guidelines
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of safe operation of basic hand and power tools
- Working knowledge of grounds maintenance techniques
- Knowledge of workplace safety, safe lifting and handling procedures
- Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner
- Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office Suite and web-based applications
- Effective verbal and listening skills
- Ability to work as part of a team and follow instruction from supervisor
