The Opportunity
RVS is seeking two outstanding professionals for a continuing, full-time (35 hours/week) Indigenous Cultural Liaison position to work a 10-month school calendar schedule starting August 26, 2025.The Indigenous Cultural Liaison is responsible for supporting the implementation of cultural programming that increases Indigenous student attendance & engagement in schools throughout RVS. This position provides ongoing supports for cultural programming, and academics, supports relationships between families and RVS employees, and liaises between the child, family, school, and community cultural resources.
This position will be located at the Education Centre in Airdrie, Alberta and access to reliable transportation is a requirement, as some travel will be required. Responsibilities:
- Provides cultural lessons, demonstrations and teachings to RVS employees and students
- Supports employees with cultural understandings to support communication between students, families, and community members
- Supports Indigenous student transitions to middle school, high school, and post-secondary
- Maintains and develops ongoing, deep, reciprocal relationships with Indigenous communities in the region they work as they pertain to education
- Advocates for and supports the inclusion of Indigenous history and knowledge into curricular activities, and model lessons and cultural teachings
- Coordinates Elders, knowledge keepers, and community members to support teaching and learning
- Supports the implementation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s recommendations as they pertain to education
- Bachelors degree in the areas of intercultural education, community development, or related field
- Certificate or Diploma in First Nations, Metis and Inuit Community Liaison Program
- Lived experience of Indigenous ways of Knowing and Being, and the history and experience of Indigenous Peoples in Canada, particularly the Treaty 7 area
- Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous students, families, and community members
- 3+ years’ experience in community development work is preferred, preferably in an Indigenous setting
- An equivalent combination of Education and Experience may be considered

Salary: $29.64-$36.02 per hour (effective August 25, 2025 this position will have a 3% wage increase per the terms of employment)
