Temporary assignments shall terminate as shown above or upon the return of a Permanent Library Technician, but no later than June 26, 2026 .

JOB SUMMARY: Reporting to Principal, the Library Technician will be primarily responsible for supporting staff and students in accessing the full use of the library and available materials, including technology, and assisting and welcoming staff and students in a professional manner.

This individual will also be responsible for:

  • Supervisions of students in e-learning courses from the library/learning commons. Ensure library/Learning commons policies are followed. Inform principal(s) or teacher librarian when issues arise.
  • Assist students in accessing on-line platforms and materials for e-learning courses.
  • Inventory tech equipment, sign out and collect tech equipment and maintain logs, facilitate tickets for repair,
  • Maintaining current knowledge base of books and resources including e-resources, make these books and resources accessible for students, and facilitate use of the resources to students or staff.
  • Ordering, cataloguing, and circulating resource materials.
  • Assisting teachers and students to locate and use resource materials, including online materials.
  • Assist in the sign-out of library materials, operate circulation desk as needed and assist in the collection of resources.
  • Perform regular inventories of all library materials.
  • Recommend desired new inventory and prepare purchase order for submission to principal/designate.
  • May assist in conducting or overseeing presentations and workshops in conjunction with the teaching staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2-year Diploma from an accredit ed college in Library and Information Technician or related program.
  • Understanding of computerized cataloguing systems,
  • Computer skills essential. Proficiency in computer applications and in the use of technology for research and the development of literacy skills.
  • Good knowledge of search engines and databases on the internet.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Good knowledge of books and other reading materials, particularly for young adults and teenagers.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Good team player with the ability to work collaboratively with others.
  • Experience preferred.
