Position Purpose:

The Employee Occupational Health & Disability Management Specialist plays a pivotal role in promoting health, safety, and wellness within the Red Deer Catholic Regional School Division. This position focuses on occupational health, disability management, and employee support, ensuring staff can access accommodations, return to work safely, and maintain their physical and mental well-being. The successful candidate will combine clinical expertise and administrative acumen to manage disability cases, oversee attendance support, and deliver programs that foster a safe and healthy workplace culture.



Key Responsibilities:

Occupational Health & Disability Management

Provide expert guidance to supervisors and administrators on implementing the Division’s attendance support and disability management programs.

Review employee attendance and disability cases, identifying needs and coordinating interventions.

Oversee return-to-work processes, accommodations, and disability cases, ensuring fairness, confidentiality, and compliance with legislation.

Manage disability files in collaboration with employees, Occupational Health teams, the Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB), and external healthcare professionals.

Monitor attendance and disability data to identify trends and recommend strategies to improve workplace health outcomes.



Health & Wellness Programs

Develop and deliver wellness initiatives that promote physical, mental, and psychological well-being.

Provide education and resources on health promotion, illness prevention, and employee wellness programs.

Collaborate with ASEBP, EFAP, Alberta Health Services, and other partners to enhance wellness offerings.

Promote a culture of psychological safety and overall wellness through innovative programs and engagement strategies.

Lead the creation and coordination of the Division Wellness Committee and provide updates to staff and leadership.



Policy, Compliance & Stakeholder Engagement

Ensure all practices comply with Occupational Health & Safety, WCB, and Human Rights legislation, Employment Standards, the Education Act, and privacy laws.

Collaborate with union representatives, supervisors, and administrators to address wellness and disability management issues.

Provide training and support to leaders on attendance support, return-to-work processes, and employee wellness initiatives.

Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical standards in all interactions.



Qualifications:

Education & Experience

Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Alberta, or equivalent healthcare credential.

Minimum 2 years of experience in occupational health, disability management, or related healthcare fields.

Experience in return-to-work planning, employee health, or workplace wellness programs is an asset.

Experience working with unions and managing complex employee relations.



Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

In-depth knowledge of human rights legislation, Duty to Accommodate, WCB processes, and privacy regulations.

Strong clinical assessment, case management, and documentation skills.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution abilities.

Ability to build trust and collaborate with employees, healthcare providers, and leadership teams.

Strong organizational and data management skills with attention to detail.
