QUALIFICATIONS
* Grade 12 education (MB Standards)
* Graduate of a recognized Health Information Management program. Active certification with the Canadian Health Information Management Association
* Three (3) years equivalent full time experience in health information within the last five (5) years
* Other combinations of suitable education and experience may be considered
* Experience in health information management practices in acute health care environment with high volume inpatient and ambulatory activity and automated systems that support communications, records processing and management
* Proficiency with health information systems , including but not limited to:
* ADT, CPI, Provincial Client Registry
* Electronic Health Records (EHR) system specific to orders, results repository, electronic documentation
* Records Analysis systems
* Dictation, Transcription, Editing
* Document Management System specific to scanning, retrieval and indexing of health information
* Switchboard and telecommunication systems
* Knowledge of and experience in privacy legislation including the Personal Health Information Act, Mental Health Act and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
* Experience with CIHI products and standards, data analysis, coding and abstracting, case mix groupings, and resource intensity weights.
* Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint), as well as Internet applications and other Information Technology
* Province of Manitoba Class 5 Drivers Licence, and access to a personal vehicle to provide service within Prairie Mountain Health
* Demonstrated leadership and managerial ability
* Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
* Demonstrated experience in employee and labour relations
* Demonstrated experience in initiating changes and improvements, including skills in workplace re-engineering within a Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) environment

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Supervisor Health Information Services shall beaccountable to the Director/Regional Manager/Manager Health Information Services and is responsible for the development, coordination, implementation, evaluation and operation of the Health Information Services program within Prairie Mountain Health. Within their delegated authority, the Supervisor Health Information Services is responsible for decision-making, supervision and management, performing diverse and routine to complex administrative work that involves the supervision of staff. The Supervisor - HIS participates with an interdisciplinary team within the program(s) portfolio and regional team structure.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Overview:

  1. Responsible for the safe administration and operation of Health Information Services throughout Prairie Mountain Health.
  2. Provides leadership and expertise as it relates to Data Quality, Coding, Records Processing, Dictation/Transcription/Editing, Registration, and Switchboard operations
  3. Monitors appropriate financial, human resources, equipment and environmental issues of Health Information Services within Prairie Mountain Health.
  4. Participates in the development of policies and procedures related to Health Information Services.
  5. Instrumental in the planning and development of a sustainable program.
  6. Participates in portfolio/facility/regional team structure.
  7. Develops and maintains functional relationships with other departments/programs, providing support as it relates to health information management.
  8. Plans for continued professional development of staff and self.
  9. Promotes positive public relations.
  10. Operationalizes Prairie Mountain Health’s Vision, Mission and Values statements.
  11. Promotes the quality dimensions of access, safety, effectiveness and satisfaction in the provision of Prairie Mountain Health’s services.
  12. Participates and/or oversees the transformation of clinical data to useful health information and statistics for planning, management and research.
  13. Acts as a designated Privacy Officer for PMH
  14. Acts as a resource on matters related to privacy and access of personal health information for PMH
  15. Collaborates with investigation and management of reported incidents
