Description
* Eligible for active practicing licensure as a Licensed Practice Nurse with applicable regulatory body in the province of Manitoba
* Certified OR Technician Course
* Current MDRT Certification or willingness to complete the Medical Device Reprocessing Technician Certification
* Five years of clinical experience as an Operating Room nurse in the past 7 years
* Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Training as delineated in Prairie Mountain Health Policy PPG-00002 CPR Training
* Province of Manitoba Class 5 Drivers License, or equivalent from province of residence, and access to a personal vehicle to provide service within Prairie Mountain Health
* Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams and PowerPoint)
* Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to work independently
* Demonstrated problem solving and decision making skills with critical thinking
* Demonstrated flexibility to facilitate changes in techniques and procedures in a changing environment
* Strong ability to teach staff regarding new products and procedures
* Demonstrated knowledge and competence of skills and concepts related to the position

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Regional Case Cart Facilitator CRN-LPN recognizes and fulfills their professional responsibilities by practicing in a manner consistent with professional obligations to take actions as per the Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics and other Provinical and Federal legislation. For Registered Nurses and Registered Psychiatric Nurses, The College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Practice for Registered Nurses, The College of Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Psychiatric Nursing Practice, the scope of practice as defined by the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA), the Registered Psychiatric Nurses ActTo meet the health care needs of the Prairie Mountain Health Region through support of all clinical areas requiring MDR services. This includes oversight of instrument conflict management. and other Provincial and Federal legislation.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Overview:
- Work with and reports to the Regional Manager of MDR.
- Work with CRNs, Surgical Suite Program Assistant, OR Team Lead and Booking Clerks to ensure accurate DPCs for each patient case.
- Ensures conflicts for instruments, equipment and supplies are addressed promptly.
- Identify equipment needs for each surgical day and communicate same to MDR and O.R. staff.
- With accuracy, update and maintain DPCs that are exisiting and develop new cards for all new surgions with the help of the CRNs.
- Maintain a hard copy of the DPCs.
- Building and maintenance of Custom Packs (latex free).
- Ongoing rapport with company representatives regarding newequipment, ordering of instruments, loaner instruments and related MIFUs.
- Organizing and maintaining replacement pieces, repair items and preventative maintenance schedule.
- Participates in the RFP process.
- Organizes educational sessions and opportunities for companies to present to the MDR staff.
- Maintain standardization of Sets and Trays of instruments, including but not limited to - tray commissioning, decommissioning and regional support w/downtime of sets.
- Keeps Resource Catalogue - additions, deletions, product codes
- Work with Purchasing regarding stock cart quotas, charge codes, product additions, substitutions.
- Oversee the ordering of stock, non-stock and consignment implants for specialty sets as required.
- Maintain reference books/software system applications (Instrument Tracking) for products relating to bed tower, clinical areas, off-site reprocessing and all Regional Centers that we service.
- Develop and maintain new Policies and Procedures related to processes with the direction of the Regional Manager and PMH Strategic Health Care Plan.
- Supervision of the MDR staff with overseeing workflow and review of root causes/errors.
- Preceptor new MDR staff in the Case Cart procedures.
- Provide performance assessments/feedback of MDR Technicians to their assisgned skills.
- Investigate and audit performance errors to provide coaching moments to MDR Technicians and details to the Regional Manager.
- Provide and arrange inservices in collaboration with the O.R. Educator/CRNs for students.
- Maintain ongoing communication for MDR staff and supply accurate reference information for changes and new products.
- Work as a team with all health care specialties within the scope of the position.
- Create and work towards long and short term goals for the Regional program.
- Participates in the development and ongoing management of the department related policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Other duties as assigned.
