QUALIFICATIONS
* Grade 12 education (Manitoba Standards) or suitable combination of relevant education and experience related to the position
* Journeyperson Refrigeration Air Conditioning Mechanic as recognized by the Province of Manitoba
* Journeyperson Gas Fitter B Status as recognized by the Province of Manitoba
* Limited Refrigeration Electricians license
* Manitoba Ozone Protection Industry Association (MOPIA) Ozone Depleting Substance (ODS) Regulation Certificate
* Two (2) years experience with building control systems such as Direct Digital Control (DDC) and or Building Automation Systems (BAS)
* Four (4) years commercial experience as a Journeyperson Refrigeration Air Conditioning Mechanic
* Active employment as a Journeyperson Refrigeration Air Conditioning Mechanic within the last two (2) years.
* Thorough knowledge of building and fire codes and related regulations applicable to health facilities in Manitoba
* Ability to read and understand blue prints and schematic drawing required
* Province of Manitoba Class 5 Drivers License, and access to a personal vehicle to provide service within Prairie Mountain Health
* Demonstrated organizational skills, and the ability to work independently
* Demonstrated communication skills
* Demonstrated flexibility to facilitate changes in techniques and procedures
* Ability to display independent judgment
* Ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population

POSITION SUMMARY

The Refrigeration/Air Conditioning Mechanic is responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of all air conditioning, HVAC, refrigeration, heating and cooling systems within Prairie Mountain Health. The incumbent is responsible for the preventative maintenance of such systems and equipment as appropriate and ensures that maintenance, repairs and installations are completed in accordance with applicable codes and standards. The incumbent provides a safe, comfortable and supportive environment for all patients, staff and visitors by encouraging reliability, effectiveness and efficiency in the operation of the facilities within Prairie Mountain Health.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Overview:

  1. Responsible for installing, maintaining, repairing all related aspects of air conditioning and HVAC related equipment, including supply fans, exhaust fans, various types of fume hoods, chiller systems, humidification systems, etc.
  2. Responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing all related aspects of refrigerators, ice machines, rooftop heating/cooling units.
  3. Install and modify ductwork as required following the approval of the department supervisor.
  4. To comply with MOPIA / ODS management record keeping and submission annually
  5. Working with building control systems, the ability to do minor service/repair on remote sites with JCI, Honeywell, Siemens, etc.
  6. Maintains drawings, schematics and equipment files so that they are current.
  7. Must work in co-operation with all other staff to produce a harmonious working relationship throughout the Prairie Mountain Health Region.
  8. Participates in various meetings and committees as required.
  9. Adheres to all applicable policies, procedures and related codes.
  10. Keeps the person you report to, apprised of all pertinent information regarding the functions within the Department.
  11. Orders related materials and parts as required.
  12. Prepares estimates of time and materials for specific projects as required.
  13. Supervise other categories or lesser-qualified maintenance personnel as required.
  14. Work independently or assist in the installation and repair of building services, building service equipment and various hospital equipment.
  15. Participates in new construction and commissioning as required.
  16. Performs all required aspects of preventative maintenance.
  17. Responds to emergency calls such as Code Red, Code White, etc. as directed.
  18. Ensures that equipment, tools, materials, etc. are properly maintained and ensures economic use of the same.
  19. Works with a full array of various hand and power tools.
  20. Maintains work and equipment areas in a clean, safe and orderly condition.
  21. Performs required duties on all Prairie Mountain Health facilities and buildings.
  22. Performs other maintenance duties as required, not exceeding skills and capabilities.
  23. Notifies person the incumbent reports to, when additional help is required.
  24. Ensures that consideration is given to patients and staff by notifying them when services are to be interrupted, when work is to be done and when work has been completed.
  25. Position may require heavy lifting, bending and working in elevated areas utilizing scaffolding, etc. and working in confined spaces and enclosures.
  26. Sundry duties as assigned.
