Description
* Bachelors degree in Native Studies, Theology or Religious Studies, or combination of related education and experience
* Completion of one unit of Supervised Pastoral Education or Counselling certification or equivalent (HSC’s Spiritual Diversity Programme, Indigenous Spiritual Care Diploma, etc.)
* Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous Health Issues
* Demonstrated ability to be sensitive, understanding and respectful of the needs of Indigenous people, particularly those of a spiritual or healing nature
* Demonstrated ability to work with staff and clients from various faith communities and cultures
* Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint), as well as Internet applications and other Information Technology
* Demonstrated leadership
* Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
* Ability to prioritize in a changing environment
* Strong organizational, decision making and problem solving skills
* Ability to display independent judgment
* Ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population
* Ability to respect and promote confidentiality
* Ability to perform the duties of the position on a regular basis
POSITION SUMMARY
The Indigenous Spiritual Care Worker provides spiritual care services to primarily indigenous patients, families and clients through the Brandon Regional Health Care Centre. The Indigenous Spiritual Care Worker is a member of the Spiritual Care Team, and networks with other health care providers, Traditional Elders, and Community Clergy in the delivery of Spiritual Care services.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Overview:
- Provides Spiritual Care services and supports with a focus on Indigenous patients, families and clients at Brandon Regional Health Care.
- Fosters a spirit of hospitality and welcome for Indigenous people.
- Familiarizes Indigenous patients/families with the healthcare environment, and provides a source of cultural/spiritual and emotional support.
- Serves as a resource for members of the Health Care Team working with Indigenous patients and families.
- Supports and assists patients/families in decisions regarding patient care.
- Available on-call as needed to deliver urgent and emergent Spiritual Care services to patients and families after hours at Brandon Regional Health Care.
- Enables the delivery of Indigenous Healing Ceremonies as appropriate.
- Provides Spiritual Assessments and referrals as appropriate.
- Develops and maintains a network of Indigenous/Traditional Elders within the Brandon area.
- Occasional resource for staff requesting education on Indigenous Spirituality/Traditions.
- Other duties as assigned.
