Electrician
Facilities Maintenance Department
Position Status: Regular Full-time
Work Year: Works 12 months per year
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, Eight (8) consecutive hours between 6:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., excluding an unpaid meal period of up to one hour; 40 hours per week
Salary range: $41.85 to $43.29 per hour ($87,055 to $90,047 per year)
This position includes an excellent benefits package, 3 weeks vacation to start, and OMERS pension plan.
Under the direction of the Team Lead or designate, the Electrician is responsible for the implementation, installation, operation, maintenance and repair of electrical distribution systems including electrical, electronic and electrical-mechanical equipment; ensuring work is performed in a safe and effective manner, complying with the Board and legislative standards and codes; ensuring Board vehicles, equipment and tools are properly maintained; performing other related duties to ensure that properties, facilities, and equipment are properly maintained.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of and continual upgrading to relevant codes and legislation (Acts and Regulation), new materials, equipment, products, methods and procedures.
- Interpersonal, communication, and listening skills required to liaise with co-workers, plant supervisors, inspectors and other Board personnel to determine problems, order and purchase supplies/materials.
- Listening skills required to understand explanations of problems and how equipment is functioning, etc.
- Organization skills to prioritize work orders and reschedule activities due to emergency calls.
- Initiative and judgment are required to make decisions such as methods of repair and equipment/supplies needed, and prioritizing work orders.
- Ability to use a variety of tools, e.g. drills, voltage meter, hydraulic personnel lifting devices.
- Ability to report code violations, complete forms such as daily logs and work order sheets.
- Ability to calculate formulae for circuit loading and material costing.
- Ability to use electronic mail system and computer maintenance management system and to work with minimum supervision.
- This knowledge would normally be obtained through completion of a secondary school diploma, and Ontario Electrician's Interprovincial Seal Maintenance/Construction Trades Certificate. Valid Ontario Fire Alarm and Protection Certification License an asset; and 5 years experience in the electrical trade, which includes 3 years in industrial or commercial maintenance. Valid Ontario Class G driver's license or equivalent. The incumbent is required to keep all licenses current, and to take approved training courses as required.
