English and Humanities Teacher Grades 9-12 Penelakut Island Learning Centre is located on Penelakut Island off the shore of Chemainus B.C. The school has an average student enrolment of 35 students and delivers the current BC Curriculum to its grade 9-12 students. Penelakut Island Learning Centre also offers an adult program with integration of employment and training services to community members. We offer a 4-day work week, with operation Monday to Thursday 7:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. We match local school district salary and provide a generous benefits package after a 3-month probationary period. The Tribe offers water taxi transportation for staff members. Position Description The teacher will provide instruction, supervision, and education services to our students, supporting extracurricular activities as required. The teacher will provide instruction in English and Humanities courses to support students in achieving a dogwood or adult dogwood diploma. The Penelakut Island Learner Centre offers small class sizes and integrates First Nations language and culture into the programming. Work alongside our Penelakut Island Learning Centre teachers, families and community partners to engage students in building academic and social-emotional skills with a focus on, health, healing, academics and personal growth. Duties and Responsibilities: Developing lesson plans and providing individualized/small group instruction to a diverse range of students;Using a variety of instructional strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, and discovery;Participates in and supports our land-based learning outdoor education, science and cultural skills program;Evaluating students academic and social growth, keeping appropriate records, and preparing progress reports;Identifying student needs and cooperating with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems;Demonstrated ability to use and integrate technology meaningfully into teaching and learning;Maintaining professional competence through in-service education activities provided by professional growth activities;Engages in other school duties as directed. Qualifications and Experience Bachelor of Education and a member of the BC Teacher Regulation Branch;Solid experience working with children with social-emotional, physical or mental developmental challenges and understanding of trauma-informed practices;Experience working in First Nations Schools would be an asset;Strong leadership skills with the ability to delegate tasks.To apply submit a cover letter, resume, TQS, and 3 references to:Regina Charlie, Penelakut Tribe Education Department Email: r.charlie@penelakut.ca
