Nisga'a School District No. 92 invites applications for our Vice Principal Pool. Successful candidates will be considered for future principal vacancies across our five schools (elementary and secondary) as opportunities arise. Placement will be determined based on district needs and candidate strengths.

Located in the Nass Valley in Northwestern British Columbia, our district serves approximately 400 students within the traditional treaty territory of the Nisga'a Nation. This region offers unparalleled opportunities for cultural engagement and outdoor exploration, making it a unique place to live, learn, and lead.

Role Overview

Principals in Nisga'a School District are instructional leaders and community builders who:

  • Provide visionary leadership aligned with the Nisga'a School District Strategic Plan and BCPVPA Leadership Standards.
  • Foster safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning environments that integrate Nisga'a language, culture, and First Peoples Principles of Learning.
  • Lead school improvement planning, curriculum implementation, and assessment practices to enhance student achievement.
  • Mentor and support staff through coaching, collaborative planning, and professional development.
  • Promote positive student behavior through culturally safe restorative practices and proactive supports.
  • Engage meaningfully with Nisga'a communities, building strong relationships with families, Elders, and community partners.
  • Ensure effective school operations, including budgeting, staffing, and compliance with district and Ministry policies.
Qualifications
  • Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligibility to obtain one by the start date of the assignment).
  • Master's degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, Curriculum, or a related field (completed or currently in progress).
  • Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience, along with demonstrated leadership experience in an educational setting.
  • Strong understanding of inclusive education, Indigenous ways of knowing, and trauma- informed practices.
  • Ability to use data to inform decision-making and drive continuous improvement.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and reconciliation.
Preferred Skills and Attributes
  • Experience working in rural and/or Indigenous communities.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with students, staff, families, and community partners.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and commitment to working as a member of a district administrative team
  • Demonstrated ability to support and maintain an inclusive, equitable, safe and caring school environment through caring relationships and positive behavioral intervention supports for all students
  • Excellent skills as a visionary, visible, accessible, dynamic, innovative and flexible leader
  • A clear ability to provide leadership in supporting and integrating technology to support learning, and the ability to provide leadership in a distributed learning environment
  • Strong problem-solving, conflict resolution, and team-building skills.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional learning and personal growth.
Salary & Benefits

Compensation is aligned with the BCPSEA Regional Salary Model. The current annual salary range for principals is approximately $ 136,759 to 152,240 plus a comprehensive benefits package and pension plan.
