The Nisga'a School District No. 92 is seeking a strategic, experienced, and values-driven financial leader to join our executive team as Secretary-Treasurer. Located in the beautiful Nass Valley in northwestern British Columbia, the Nisga'a School District serves the traditional treaty territory of the Nisga'a Nation. This region offers a rewarding lifestyle with deep cultural connections and natural beauty.

Role Overview

Reporting to the Superintendent of Schools and serving as Secretary to the Board of Education, the CFO & Secretary-Treasurer is responsible for the strategic leadership and oversight of the district's financial, operational, and administrative functions. This includes Finance, Information Technology, Operations, Housing, and Food Services. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with provincial legislation, manage risk, and support the district's mission through sound governance and resource management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and management of the district's annual budget and long - term financial plans.
  • Oversee financial operations including payroll, procurement, and reporting to the Ministry of Education and Child Care.
  • Serve as Secretary to the Board of Education, managing governance records, policy updates, and board communications.
  • Supervise key departments: Finance, IT, Operations, Housing, and Food Services.
  • Ensure compliance with provincial and federal regulations, internal controls, and risk management practices.
  • Lead capital planning and project management, including 5-year capital plans and funding applications.
  • Act as the district's primary liaison with the Ministry and external stakeholders on financial and operational matters.
  • Support strategic planning and continuous improvement initiatives across the district.
  • Promote transparency, accountability, and community engagement in all financial and operational matters.
Qualifications
  • CPA designation or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Master's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field (preferred).
  • Minimum five years of progressive leadership experience in financial management, preferably in the public or education sector.
  • Proven expertise in budget development, financial reporting, and capital planning.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Deep understanding of public sector accounting standards and provincial education funding.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in leadership and governance.
