The Nisga'a School District No. 92 is seeking a strategic, collaborative, and experienced educational leader to join our team as the Human Resources (Director / Manager / District Principal). This is a key leadership role for an individual who is passionate about fostering a positive, inclusive, and high-performing workplace culture that supports the success of all staff and students.

Located in the Nass Valley in northwestern British Columbia, the Nisga'a School District serves the traditional treaty territory of the Nisga'a Nation. This region offers a unique opportunity to live and work in a culturally rich and naturally beautiful environment.

Role Overview

Reporting to the Superintendent of Schools and Secretary-Treasurer, the Human Resources Leader is responsible for leading all aspects of human resources management across the district. This includes recruitment, labour relations, staff development, workplace safety, and compliance with employment legislation and collective agreements. The successful candidate will be a skilled communicator and systems thinker who builds strong relationships and leads with integrity and cultural awareness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with district goals and educational priorities.
  • Lead recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and workforce planning initiatives.
  • Manage collective agreements (NTU and CUPE), including grievance resolution and negotiations.
  • Oversee employee relations, performance management, and professional development.
  • Ensure compliance with employment legislation, district policies, and workplace safety standards.
  • Support school administrators in staffing, evaluations, and conflict resolution.
  • Administer payroll onboarding, salary placement, and benefits coordination.
  • Promote equity, diversity, and inclusion in all HR practices.
  • Represent the district in provincial and regional HR forums.
Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Education, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • Valid BC Teaching Certificate and membership in good standing with the Teacher Regulation Branch (District-Principal applicant's only).
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience in HR, labour relations, or school administration.
  • Demonstrated expertise in collective agreement administration, grievance resolution, and employment law.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to equity, reconciliation, and Indigenous perspectives, particularly Nisga'a culture and history.
