About Brucejack

Our Brucejack Gold Mine, a high-grade underground mine in beautiful northern British Columbia, is located approximately 65 kilometres north of Stewart. Brucejack is a fly-in/fly-out operation with pick-up points across Western Canada, making it easy for people from different places to join us. We work closely with local First Nations communities including the Nisga’a, Tahltan, Gitanyow, and Gitxsan, to build respectful partnerships and celebrate our shared community.

Your Impact
As a Mountain Safety Technician, you’ll play a crucial role in keeping our people safe in high-risk mountain environments. Your leadership in avalanche risk management and commitment to safety protocols help ensure our roadways remain open and our teams return home safely. NOTE: This is a year-round, permanent opportunity!
Essential Duties
  • Assist in daily avalanche forecasting and control operations, including explosive deployment and terrain risk assessments
  • Expect to follow industry best practices in safe travel, communication, and emergency preparedness
  • Collect, analyze, and input snow, weather, and avalanche data to support real-time decision-making
  • Maintain avalanche equipment, signage, and ensure daily advisories are accurate and distributed on schedule
  • Conduct regular field patrols and site-specific avalanche assessments to identify and mitigate hazards
  • Remain rescue-ready for mountain emergencies
  • Collaborate with supervisors, departments, and external partners to ensure worker safety in complex alpine environments
Prerequisites for Your Success in this Role

Preferred experience:

  • Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG) certification
  • Rope rescue or rope access (SPRAT/IRATA) background
  • Canadian Avalanche Association (CAA) Operations Level 2 Certification
  • Avalanche technician experience
  • OFA Level 3 or 80-hour advanced first aid certification
  • WSBC Blasting Certification for avalanche control
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Strong mountain travel, physical fitness, and skiing ability
  • Minimum ICS 100
  • GIS, snowcat, or off-trail snowmobile experience
Working Conditions
  • Location: Brucejack Mine, fly-in/fly-out access
  • Rotation: 13 days on x 12-hour shifts, 2 travel days, 13 days off
  • Shifts: Both day and night work required
  • Conditions: Remote, alpine, high-risk terrain in extreme weather
  • Support: Private accommodations, on-site amenities, and a safety-first culture

The Brucejack Operations team is now recruiting for the position of Mountain Safety Technician with a competitive hourly wage of $56.91 or $61.29 based on expereince level, and an additional short-term incentive of 10%. You will also enjoy extended medical and dental benefits from day one, and be able to join our Comprehensive Pension Plan after three months. The offered base salary will be determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies, with consideration to internal equity.This is a year-round, permanent opportunity! The expected salary range for this role is CA$56.91-61.29 / hour, depending on experience level . This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience.
