Our Red Chris Mine, located in the heart of Northern British Columbia on the traditional territory of the Tahltan Nation. Red Chris is a gold and copper mine located in the Tahltan Territory, northern British Columbia. The mine has been in operation since 2015 and has been operated by Newmont since 2023. It is now transitioning from open pit to underground block caving-an innovative method that extends mine life while reducing environmental impact.
This transition represents one of Newmont’s most significant global capital projects and will create technically advanced roles and opportunities to work alongside global experts. We are committed to partnering with the Tahltan Nation and local communities, ensuring the project delivers long-term social, environmental, and economic benefits.
As Team Lead, Technical Training, you will play a key role in preparing the workforce for one of Canada’s most complex underground mining developments.
You will coordinate and deliver technical training programs that support safe project execution and operational readiness for the Red Chris Block Cave. In this role, you will guide trainers, collaborate with operational leaders, and ensure training programs align with evolving project requirements.
Your work will help build the technical capability required to safely transition from open pit operations to underground block caving while supporting consistent training standards across project and operational teams.
- Lead and coordinate the implementation of technical training programs supporting underground project development
- Supervise and guide a team of trainers to ensure consistent and effective delivery of technical training
- Partner with the Lead Training (Red Chris Operations) and their team, as well as project area leaders to assess training needs and develop training strategies
- Maintain and continuously improve training materials to reflect current technologies, equipment, and industry standards
- Plan and coordinate training sessions in collaboration with project departments and operational teams
- Monitor training effectiveness through feedback, assessments, and performance data
- Ensure training documentation and records are maintained accurately for regulatory and operational compliance
- Promote strict adherence to safety and operational protocols during all training activities
- Provide hands-on technical support during training sessions where required
- Report training progress, outcomes, and improvement opportunities to project leadership and People teams
- These responsibilities support the development of a technically capable workforce aligned with project and operational goals.
- Post-secondary education in Education, Training, Engineering, Mining, or a related technical discipline
- Experience developing or delivering technical training programs in mining, construction, or heavy industrial environments
- Experience working in large-scale mining or project environments
- Leadership or supervisory experience guiding trainers, instructors, or technical teams
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate training programs and evaluate training effectiveness
- Strong knowledge of safety standards and operational compliance requirements in mining environments
- Excellent collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills across project, operations, and People teams
- Strong communication and facilitation skills, including delivering technical training to diverse audiences
- Ability to work in fast-paced project environments with evolving priorities and timelines
- Experience in underground mining or block caving operations is considered a strong asset
- This role will support the Red Chris Block Cave Project located in northern British Columbia.
- The position operates on a fly-in fly-out (FIFO) basis and follows a rotational schedule of 15 days on / 13 days off, with 12-hour workdays.
- You will work in a remote mining environment supporting the development of underground infrastructure and project execution. This environment requires strong leadership, adaptability, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and collaboration.
- Newmont provides coordinated transportation to and from site through designated departure points located in Vancouver, Kelowna, Calgary, and Smithers. Travel arrangements are managed to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient access to site. Lodging will be provided at site.

The expected salary range for this role is CA$$105,800 - $141,100 annually . This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s pay history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about pay history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.
