Your Impact

As Lead, Security, you will be responsible for delivering technical expertise and implementing security strategies aligned with Newmont’s global standards. You will lead a site-based security team to ensure the safety of personnel, assets, and infrastructure through proactive risk control, incident investigation, and regulatory compliance. This role plays a critical part in embedding a culture of safety, vigilance, and continuous improvement in all site operations.

As Part of Our Team, You Will
  • Lead security personnel and operations by guiding the on-site security team, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations, and embedding standard operating procedures to ensure consistent and effective security operations
  • Create and apply security strategies by aligning them with the company's overall security policies and industry standard methodologies, conducting regular risk assessments and audits, and recommending improvements based on findings
  • Represent subject matter expertise by acting as the primary point of contact for all security related matters, staying updated with the latest security trends and regulations, and conducting training sessions and workshops for staff
  • Investigate security breaches, theft, or any suspicious activities within the mining site, collaborate with local law enforcement and internal teams to gather evidence, interview witnesses, and compile comprehensive reports
  • Create and apply emergency response plans for various security incidents, conducting regular drills and simulations to validate the effectiveness of these plans, and ensuring all staff are adequately prepared for emergencies, including Rapid Response
  • Own and drive risk control, including managing site Security Threat and Risk Assessments and Security Vulnerability assessments and relevant action plans to address them
  • Deliver technical support for Operational Teams on Risk Controls
  • Ensure site compliance to the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights
Prerequisites for Your Success in This Role

To excel in this role, you will bring a strong combination of technical knowledge, operational experience, and leadership capabilities. The following qualifications and skills are essential:

Knowledge & Experience
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in security, law enforcement, or military, or an equivalent combination of training and experience; preference given to experience in mining security
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent certificate/experience) in Security Management, Emergency Management, Criminal Justice, Military Management, or a related discipline
  • Strong active listening and interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution, and training
  • Knowledge and experience with relevant security technology and equipment (e.g., CCTV, surveillance systems)
  • Excellent knowledge of security protocols and procedures
  • Strong verbal, written communication, and public speaking skills
  • Sound planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong time management skills to meet deadlines

Technical Skills
  • Ability to work in accordance with and ensure processes align with legal requirements and established regulations
  • Deep functional expertise in security risk assessment and management
  • Aptitude in conducting sound security breach investigations
  • Working knowledge of design criteria for behavioral, technical, and physical-based security programs
  • Experience managing security systems including access control, CCTV, and intrusion detection

  • Location: Red Chris Mine in Dease Lake, British Columbia - situated on the traditional territory of the Tahltan Nation
  • Schedule: 15/13, fly-in fly-out (FIFO) rotation
  • Accommodation: Camp-based lodging with meals, fitness facilities, Wi-Fi, and recreation amenities
  • Conditions: Outdoor, field-based leadership role in varied weather and terrain

The expected salary range for this role is CA$$129,300 - 172,400 CAD, plus 25% STIP and 15% LTI . This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s pay history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about pay history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.
