About Brucejack

Our Brucejack Gold Mine, a high-grade underground mine in beautiful northern British Columbia, is located approximately 65 kilometres north of Stewart. Brucejack is a fly-in/fly-out operation with pick-up points across Western Canada, making it easy for people from different places to join us. We work closely with local First Nations communities including the Nisga’a, Tahltan, Gitanyow, and Gitxsan, to build respectful partnerships and celebrate our shared community.

Your Impact

Newmont is seeking a motivated Engineer in Training (EIT), Mine Engineer to join our Technical Services team at the Brucejack underground gold mine. Reporting to the Supervisor, Mine Planning, this role provides site-based engineering support to underground operations.

This role offers strong development potential, including cross-functional exposure and the opportunity to rotate into multiple technical disciplines such as Drill & Blast, Mine Planning, Ventilation, and Mine Projects.

As part of our team, you will
  • Support underground mine planning and design activities, including stope design, drill and blast planning, and other technical functions under the guidance of a P.Eng.
  • Coordinate with Geology, Geotechnical, Mine Operations, Ventilation, and Paste teams to develop practical and executable mine plans.
  • Ensure all engineering plans are delivered on schedule, with clear hazard identification and appropriate technical and operational approvals.
  • Conduct regular underground inspections to verify adherence to plans, assess execution quality, and provide timely feedback to operations teams.
  • Collect, track, and analyze operational and production data to support performance monitoring, reconciliation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with technical studies and optimization projects, including equipment selection, drill performance, and haulage efficiency.
  • Participate in daily safety meetings, hazard identification processes, and complete Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHAs) and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) as required.
  • Maintain compliance with all Newmont safety standards and applicable regulatory requirements, including Ministry of Mines and WorkSafeBC guidelines.
Prerequisites for your success in this role
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as an Engineer in Training (EIT) with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC).
  • Foundational understanding of underground mining methods and drill and blast principles.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Competency with mine design software (e.g., Deswik or similar) and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with a proactive approach to learning.
  • Willingness and ability to work underground in a remote FIFO environment.
  • Previous underground mining or mine planning experience.
  • Familiarity with British Columbia mining and safety regulations.

The Brucejack Operations team is now recruiting for the position of Engineer in Training, Mine Engineer with a competitive base salary between $85,400 - $113,900 / year, and an additional short-term incentive bonus program of 15%. The offered base salary will be determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies, with consideration to internal equity.

The expected salary range for this role is CA$85,400 - 113,900 / year . This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience.
