About the Project

Red Chris is a gold and copper mine located in the Tahltan Territory, northern British Columbia. The mine has been in operation since 2015 and has been operated by Newmont since 2023.

Red Chris is now transitioning from open pit mining to underground block caving, an advanced mining method that extends mine life while reducing environmental impact. This transformation represents one of Canada’s most significant underground mining developments and introduces new technical complexity, large-scale underground infrastructure, and opportunities to implement world-class systems and practices.

Newmont is committed to working in partnership with the Tahltan Nation and local communities, ensuring the project delivers lasting environmental, social, and economic benefits while maintaining the highest standards of safety and operational excellence.
