Start Date: August 27, 2025



Primary Duties:

  • Implement accommodations and modifications as outlined in the student’s Individualized Support Plan (ISP).

  • Support the student with social-emotional regulation using strategies provided by the learning support team.

  • Foster positive peer relationships and assist in developing communication and language skills, including the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems when required.

  • Provide support for communication, mobility, and personal care needs (including toileting and feeding) while maintaining the student’s dignity and respect at all times.

  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other school staff to create and sustain inclusive learning environments that promote active participation.

  • Encourage and facilitate the student’s engagement in classroom and school-wide activities, ensuring meaningful inclusion with peers.





Technical Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience or training in supporting individuals with complex needs, including toileting, feeding, equipment management, and AAC.

  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, how to support AAC systems and adapt instructional materials.

  • Strong commitment to the principles of inclusive education and supporting meaningful student participation in school life.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective teamwork within a multidisciplinary setting.

  • Patience, empathy, and a respectful approach to supporting students with diverse needs and abilities.

  • Physical capability to assist with lifting and transferring students safely using appropriate equipment (training provided).

  • Training in Supporting Individuals through Valued Attachments (SIVA) is an asset (training available if required).

  • A current Criminal Record Check and Alberta Children’s Services Intervention Record Check (or willingness to obtain).

  • Child and Youth Care Diploma, Educational Assistant Certificate, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
