Job Description

 

Assistant Estimator/Co-op Student

  

 

Term: Starting May 2026

TERM: 8 or 12 Month Term Preferred

 

The Assistant Estimator will assume work within a team environment under direct supervision of the Senior Estimator/ Estimating Manger or the Chief Estimator. The Assistant Estimator will provide clerical and technical support to the Estimating Team for project specific estimates and prepare detailed estimates for tendering construction projects. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on either ICI or Civil construction projects. 

 

  • Assisting with preparing detailed cost estimates and tenders.
  • Scanning, uploading and printing of drawings, specifications and reports.
  • Maintain subcontractor and supplier database within the FTP contact site.
  • Participation in the negotiation and presentation of proposals with Business Development.
  • Obtain subcontractors’ proposed scopes of work and review for thoroughness based upon interpretation of specifications.
  • Preparing detailed quantity takeoffs, working within Maple’s established estimating methods, working from “first principles”.
  • Working with estimating team to finalize final tender submission.
  • Prepare and maintain list of questions and assumptions for ambiguous or missing information within tender documents.
  • Assisting in tender deliveries when necessary.
  • Sending quotations to client.
  • Preparing preliminary work schedules using MS Project.
  • Cultivating and maintaining positive relationships with sub-contractors, architects and consultants.
  • Suggesting and exploring creative value engineering opportunities.
  • Soliciting material prices.
  • Identifying construction risks, opportunities and through assessment of site conditions, sub-contractor and labour availability.
  • Travel to site inspections as required.
  • Assisting Senior Management with identifying bid opportunities and strategies.

 

To be considered for this role you will have:

 

  • A full-time student enrolled in a related post-secondary program of study (i.e. Architectural Technology, Construction Management or Civil Engineering)
  • Or be a new graduate from a related program of study who completed studies in 2026.
  • Experience with Microsoft Suites and or estimating software would be an asset

Pay Range: $21 - $26 / hour (depending on previous experience) 

 

Location: Mississauga, Ontario
