Job Responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for improving the quality of work life for all employees with respect to environmental health and safety (EMS) programs as per the “Magna Employee Charter”
  • Maintains accident/incident reporting system, monitors investigations, provides guidance and effective follow-up for corrective actions
  • Conducts monthly HSE workplace audits / inspections. Ensures compliance with all legal requirements, and make recommendations for improvements
  • Functions as a resource to the Joint Health and Safety Committee and coordinates follow-up actions to committee’s recommendations
  • Responds to plant safety concerns and provides counseling for hazard recognition
  • Prepares applicable reports for Environment Canada and other Ministries
  • Maintains the WHMIS/GHS program and ensures accuracy of chemical inventory
  • Participates in formal company employee orientation
  • Maintains safety supplies, first aid kits, and coordinates the introduction of new safety supplies
  • Leads opportunities for waste reduction and continuous improvement
  • Liaises with other departments (e.g. Maintenance, Engineering) to ensure safety compliance on new equipment
  • Assists HSE Manager with Health and Safety incentive promotion programs
  • Assists the HSE Manager in the retention of related HSE records
  • Maintains HSE documents (Policies and Procedures) and ensures that they are up to date (annual reviews)
  • Maintains SDS sheets and ensures availability to all employees and professional services
  • Assists the HSE Manager in preparation of annual HSE audits and inspections
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of all information obtained, written or verbal, with the HSE department
  • Administration of claims management, return to work programs
  • Ensure all required WSIB forms completed in a timely manner (Form 7)
  • Conduct physical Demands Analysis when required
  • Administration of Magna ergonomics program
  • Perform all job functions in a safe and healthful manner, abiding by all health, safety and environmental rules and regulations, promoting safety in the workplace
  • Comply with the requirements of CTPAT/PIP
  • Conduct business in an ethical manner in compliance with the Magna Code of Conduct
  • Report all accidents/incidents and unsafe conditions/behavior
  • Adhere to applicable quality systems, IATF16949 standards and customer specific requirements
  • Adhere to and promote the Employee Charter and work within the rules, regulations and guidelines of the Plastcoat Employee Handbook
  • Participate in and support Continuous Improvement initiatives
  • Maintain work area in accordance with the principles of 5S and operate daily within these standards
  • Ensure work area is kept neat and organized
  • Perform other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

  • Minimum completion of college diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Management

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 2 years directly related occupational health and safety experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in automotive industry an asset

SKILLS:

  • Working knowledge of health and safety and environmental legislation
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Good presentation and leadership skills
  • Computer literate in word, presentation & spreadsheet programs
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively solve problems
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Well-developed organizational and time management skills
