Position Overview


Mackenzie Health is seeking a 0.5 FTE Specialist in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (Physiatrist) to join our growing Rehabilitation Program. This role is primarily based on the inpatient musculoskeletal rehabilitation unit, which includes 12 High-Intensity Rehabilitation beds and 10 Low Tolerance Long Duration (LTLD) beds, with additional opportunities to provide consultative physiatry services to patients within the Complex Continuing Care, Acute Medicine, and other inpatient programs.

The successful candidate will play an integral role in delivering comprehensive, patient-centred rehabilitation care and will work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team to assess, treat, and optimize functional outcomes for patients with complex rehabilitation needs. The Physiatrist will contribute to the ongoing development and enhancement of rehabilitation services and support innovative models of care across the organization.

This position offers the opportunity to collaborate closely with the Chief of Family Practice, Physician Lead, Complex Continuing Care and Palliative Care, and Physician Lead, Rehabilitation, as well as a dedicated team of healthcare professionals committed to excellence in patient care, quality improvement, education, and program development.

Responsibilities

As a Physiatrist, the Physician will be responsible for the following:

  • Provides Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation consultative assessment of physical, mental and occupational rehabilitation needs of patients in the high-intensity rehabilitation program, and on an as-needed basis on LTLD, CCC and Medicine programs at the Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital.
  • Addresses musculoskeletal issues such as pain, deformity, immobility and other physiatric barriers limiting progression within a rehabilitation program, candidacy for a rehabilitation program or other disposition.
  • Works closely with other Mackenzie Health Physiatrist(s) to negotiate cross-hospital consultation or coverage if/when necessary. Opportunity to provide support for MSK consultations at other sites depending on consultation volumes.
  • Collaborates with community partners to support hospital pathways for a small number of patients in other physiatric populations (amputee, stroke, SCI)
  • Participates in meetings and committees, as required.
  • Performs duties and responsibilities as agreed upon by the Division Head.
  • Performs duties and responsibilities outlined in the Hospital By-laws, department and division rules, and applicable policies.

Education - Certification - Licenses

  • Medical degree approved by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) required.
  • Postdoctoral training in physical medicine and rehabilitation residency required.
  • Canadian Medical Protection Association (CMPA) in good standing.
