Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) / Student Assistant

Full-Time (1.0 FTE Total) | Light of Christ Catholic School Lac La Biche, Alberta

Start Immediately 0.50 FTE SLPA + 0.50 FTE Student Assistant

Lakeland Catholic School Division is currently seeking a skilled and compassionate professional to join our team in a combined full-time role. This position is split between 0.50 FTE SLPA and 0.50 FTE Student Assistant.

The SLPA portion supports students primarily at Light of Christ Catholic School (Lac La Biche) with some travel required to also support Holy Family Catholic School (Waskatenau). The Student Assistant portion supports students at Light of Christ Catholic School only.

This position supports student learning and communication development in a faith-based educational setting, working under the supervision of a registered Speech-Language Pathologist for SLPA programming.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver direct speech and language programming to students as outlined by the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist
  • Support students individually or in small groups
  • Track student progress and maintain documentation
  • Prepare therapy materials and assist with scheduling
  • Communicate effectively with school staff and parents, as appropriate
  • Provide direct support to students with diverse learning needs in classroom and individual settings
  • Implement behavioural support strategies aligned with student support plans
  • Assist with emotional regulation, engagement, and independence skills
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and inclusive education teams in a Catholic school setting
  • Maintain student dignity and a safe, respectful learning environment
Required Qualifications
  • Completion of a recognized Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) diploma; or ECE Level 2 or 3 Certification (Level 3 preferred) with relevant experience.
  • Experience working with school-aged children or youth in clinical and/or educational settings
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skills
  • Demonstrated experience supporting students with diverse learning needs
  • Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation (mileage reimbursed for required travel)
  • Alignment with the values and mission of Catholic education
Additional Assets
  • Familiarity with complex communication needs and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems
  • First Aid/CPR and/or NVCI (or willingness to obtain)
  • Strong interpersonal, documentation, and teamwork skills
